Now...please don't go contact this guy just cause I posted this!
http://cleveland.craigslist.org/pho/2558557086.html
A Minolta SRT-101 and 50/1.2 for $25. The lens is stuck at f/1.2. Is it worth picking up? I don't need it....but....
Does anyone know how this lens handles wide open? Is it decent?

You would not wear fingers typing this - for $25 I'd take it just to see how stuck f/1.2 lens looks like

I don't get along with SLRs very well but I did like the SRT-101 when I had a chance to use one recently.
I wonder if the seller knows how the lens is supposed to work... Should stay open until you depress the shutter, right?

Well, the 1.2 lens is highly regarded and working properly is worth somewhere around $250-300.
Who knows what it would cost to make right?

Buy it and offer it for sale here - I don't shoot and the system but I'd still jump on it for a 1.2 lens.
Then again, I do mess around with repair and would probably try to get it working myself so I suppose there is less money spent in my case. That obviously doesn't apply to everyone.

This was my first thought also. Especially with the spelling for "apature ring"!I don't get along with SLRs very well but I did like the SRT-101 when I had a chance to use one recently.

I dunno. He does seem to know f1.2 is good for "low light."

Look into the front of any modern SLR lens and manipulate the aperture ring - they are all stuck wide open! Take the lens off the camera and manipulate the aperture ring - still stuck wide open!

I emailed the guy but he hasn't responded and I can't find the ad (although the link still works). It's probably gone.
But he did just put up a speed graphic with two darkslides in good condition for $100! I think I'll call him in the morning.

Shooter of Film...
Like others have said already...for $25 you get a body that most likely works...and a lens that has the potential of working OR a lens in which you can learn how to fix it or learn how to fix other lenses...
Or just buy it to resell and fund a few rolls of your fav film...
