Hi guys, I've been using my M8 purchased off eBay a few months ago and notice it has a horribly dirty / dusty sensor. It takes awhile to remove the dust spots when processing with Lightroom. Anyway, I'm wanting to order some cleaning supplies from BHPhoto but with there are almost too many choices. I have a Giottos Rocket Blower for my 5D2 that I've used but this dust is rather stubborn, I'm assuming it's stuck on there from use overtime. I've found a good 25 or so noticable dust spots on my RAW files I'm tired of removing with Lightroom.
I've also heard horror stories of sensors being further scratched by attempting to remove dust, smearing, oils, or MORE dust as the result of bad cleaning products or cleaning incorrectly.
Any suggestions from personal experience with your M8 / M8.2 / M9 would be appreciated.

I use this for stubborn dust/grease spots and an arctic butterfly for plain old dust.

I use this to get most of the dust off. I also use the rocket blower. I just set to bulb, pop the shutter, turn it sensor side down and blow out the dust. Seems to work fine. You will never get all the dust, just accept that and be glad there is photoshop.

I also use the swabs that woodphoto points out over at B&H. There are a few different liquids for a 'wet' cleaning method. They make a sensor brush series that works for quick 'dry' cleanings.
The company has a few PDFs detailing the two cleaning techniques:
Hope that helps.

Ditto thumbs up for the Arctic Butterfly. I took an M8 on the road for 12 weeks a few years back, and was changing lenses in dusty environs. This little gizmo saved my photoshop sanity.

The Visible Dust (same company that makes artic butterfly) has the best wet cleaning system i've seen so far. It has been the only way that I keep the M8 sensor clean for any length of time.
I use the body cavity cleaning solution as well. It made a huge difference. I don't know what it is, but the M8 was a pure dust magnet before. Other wet solutions, Artic Butterfly, air, etc... nothing quite worked for more than a few days.

Another Visible Dust user here. They aren't exactly cheap products but they get the job done. I use the swabs and a couple different liquids they have on all my digitals. I also have a generic bulb air blower bought from a pharmacist's (does the same as the Giotto's Rocket Blower but is more compact).

I use visible dust for liquid clean and arctic butterfly for ordinary dust. Why go cheap on something so important!

Works like magic. I use a blower instead of arctic butterfly.

Hi
I use the wife's vacuum cleaner at a low setting to remove dust, works very well. I used to get the odd greasy mark when the camera was newer and used swabs then, I presume they must have come from the makers lubricant on the mechanism but as the camera gets older I very rairly get grease it's usually just dust.

does the Leica factory not use the Pentax sensor cleaning kit during assembly? I’m pretty sure I saw a video showing that. anyhow, my vote is for the Pentax sensor kit. its not the cheapest, but a lot cheaper than some of the others mentioned such as arctic butterfly, visible dust, etc. and does a very good job.

Vodka, applied sparingly (to the sensor) with a qtip and with little pressure, has worked great for me!

Vodka has always worked wonders for me.
Oh, you're talking about cleaning the sensor.

Ride, dive, shoot.
I just did the Visible Sust Swab with their solution on my M8.2. I did Giottos Rocket Blower sensor facing down before that, but a few spots (oil?) remained.
One swab took came care of all remaining marks. Size "1.3" worked perfectly. If I squeeze down to F22 on sky, probably I'll see more, but for practical use, I think I'm good to go. I'll do Rocket / Visible Dust combination once in a while.
It went from this
to this. (dark spots are the texture/pin holes on the wall)
