Stuck framelines

Hello all,

Just got back from a trip to Seattle and the pacific NW. My M8 performed beautifully except that the frame lines in the VF appear to have become stuck in 28/35 mode. I ordinarily shoot w a CV35 f/1.4 so this isn't a big deal at the moment. FWIW, I noticed this when I mounted my CV 75 f/2.5. It remains in the 28/35 view.

Any thoughts?

Sometimes the rather banal "repair" of giving the camera a good smack will help. Otherwise it is off to Leica, I fear.

I guess you have tried playing with the frame line lever already and that didn't help. Make sure you have the correct adapter on the 75. Otherwise it sounds your camera needs another trip.

The 75 worked perfectly until recently. I fear slapping it as I don't want to misalign the rangefinder mechanism. Realistically, I can go like this indefinitely as I usually use the 35 and less often the 15, which requires an external VF. Nonetheless, is this a repair that can be done in the US or must I ship to Solms?

US no doubt. I would even trust an independent with it but I guess the camera is still under guaranty. It is not so easy to misalign a rangefinder It needs a pretty hard knock to do that. The culprit is usually either the camera being dropped or vibration.

There is a small sensor lever that activates the frameline mechanism, at the lens mount. I would start there, to see if it has dirt in it or has gotten gummed up. I tiny drop of lighter fluid might free the whole thing up.

If the camera is still on warranty, sure, send it to Leica NJ. If out of warranty, any competent Leica repair shop should be able to deal with this.

Try depressing the lens release button and turn the lens counterclockwise minimally and re-seating it. I have a M8 as well that behaves like that. Problem is I have bigger issues than that with mine.

@TR3B: tried but no success. Think I'll go like this for a while as it doesn't really affect my day to day usage. The 75 was just an impulse purchase to round out my kit. I really prefer using the 35 and the 15 anyway. Perhaps later I'll send it off to Leica NJ for repair and cleaning.
