I much prefer the M8 readout for this but equally I can't get excited about its absence on the M9. An awful lot of people who say "How difficult would it be to...?" should be a lot more humble in their assumptions. Outside areas I know a LOT about, I am constantly surprised by responses by experts who actually do know what they are talking about.

A chum of mine who is a small builder, plumber, etc., constantly provides excellent examples. "Couldn't you just...?" can be met with "Well, yes, but in order to do that I would have to...", while "Would it be possible to..." can be met with "Sure, dead easy." Unless you're an expert in a given field (and sometimes, in a given specialized area of that field), it can be next to impossible to guess how easy or difficult a given modification may be.

Probably not so much cost as space. The interior of a dig-m is VERY crowded. The top plate is CNC milled from a huge chunk of brass so it's not a major tooling expense to change it.

Yes, the M8 is sadly a done deal in this respect. And yes, I would get an M9 if I could possibly afford one. With or without the ISO button.
 
Powerdrain or space regarding the little lcd display on the m8??? What make you guys even think like that, it is absolutely nonsense. They cut away a bigger piece of the m9 then the lcd will possibly take. And my casio watch runs 8years (including daily alarm etc) on a the tiniest possible battery!!
I really enjoy reading the forum and appreciate lot of the input from everyone, but sometimes remarks make me wonder.

As for the difference between the m8 and m9, they need to change something to please new buyers right? Just like skipping and then adding the sapphire again (on the m9-p). When the m9 was introduced nobody complained it was gone, it was merely a show off feature anyway according to many leica users. But with the m9-p introduced, some users even happily fork out a lot of cash to get their m9 upgraded. It's just the nature of the beast (Leica fan😀) (this comments reflects myself to btw 😀)

I am over it, i happily got one of the first M9s, kept my M8 u as backup and sold my M8. Actually there was nothing to get over for me 🙂

I don't think anyone is very actively hoping anything. This is an old thread.

But I am still willing to accept this usable update.
