I'm just sick , bought this camera , and was damaged in shipment , at list I think so , only packaging was bubble wrap. This thing was Mint . :bang:
I don't know what to do , keep it and hope to find another for the top plate or send it back and ask for a refund . paid $107.00 for it off the bay.

What did the outside of the box look like ...was there any damage to it...was the bubble wrap damaged...if not then it was that way before it was sent...
How did it look in the ebay ad...were there enough pictures to see this part of the body...
Was it shipped insured...???

contact the seller with your concerns, and work something out for a full or partial refund. If insured, the seller will likely need the camera back to make a claim.. not sure if the recipient can claim

no damage to box outside maybe just a little on the inside but very slight, bubble wrap looks ok.

The best camera is one that still works!
That has to have been like that before it was sent ... surely!
The one time that I shipped a camera that was damaged in transit, the box showed clear signes of being dropped. The RF was misaligned, and a lens was knocked out in it's bubble.

Unlikely it was shipping if no damage to box, that dent would require a significant bang. Take photos of the box to prove it wasnt shipping. Shady ebay sellers (which this might be since he or she didnt list it as dented) will blame shipping. Cover your butt.
Negotiate a partial refund if you want to keep it. Otehrwise, threaten a paypal claim if he doesnt do a FULL REFUND + SHIPPING BACK! do not pay any money out of your own pocket to ship it back.
10 years + on ebay. feel free to pm if you have any questions

Probably damaged between listing and shipping. I dropped a camera packing it up to ship and broke the finder. I had to refund the buyers money.

I've got a Topcon Super Dm which I've had for approx 35 years and I can tell you that it must have been one helluva thump to cause that damage - these cameras are bomb proof. I can't think of any circumstances where such damage could be caused to a wrapped up camera in the post.

I've noticed that when a seller thinks they didn't get enough money in the auction, they are very reluctant to pack the item properly. I've gotten a couple of cameras where it was just chucked into a box, no packing whatsoever.

I've had dealers who hide the flaws in their pics.

Anyone know of some other repair guys to call that might work on topcons . I would like to keep it and find another top plate . It's just the left side (two piece top)
Thanks in advance .
I have contacted the seller.

I'm sure you have verified this already. But, just to cover all bases, does the serial number on the camera you received match the number on the camera in the photo?

Yes that was the first thing I did .

Whatever
Don't know how much you want to spend for a replacement top plate, but you can get a 'bargain' condition Super D body off KEH right now for $35.00. It says the foam is bad and the meter doesn't work, but everything else might be okay for your needs.

It's not a rare or expensive camera.
Did the auction description state it was mint?
Just send it back and bid on another. Not worth fooling around with top plates, repairs, etc.
It's a hundred buck item and you are covered by eBay. Why are you "sick"? This is what happens when you buy and sell.

topcons aren't that rare. Notify the seller that you are returning it. Immediately start a dispute on eBay so that ebay tracks the return. You give ebay the return tracking number and when it is confirmed returned they will refund the purchase and shipping costs. There is absolutley no reason to keep, question the seller's honesty, file an insurance claim or anything else.

If you're happy to use it, but not to pay what you did for it, then a partial refund would probably suit both parties.
