I walked into my local camera store and got a 28mm Elmarit... i was thinking of replacing the 35mm cron with a wider lens.
Tried it for a couple of days and somehow the images produced didn't click with me. I'm not too sure if its too contrasty or too sharp. But could it be that i'm too used to the image produced by the 35mm cron or my 35mm pre asph lux that this lens simply does not deliver?
What was your experience with the 28mm elmarit, esp. on the M9? Would love to hear from anyone!
Anyhows, i can't justify holding on to the cron and the elmarit. Need to let go of one... help?

The Elmarit 28 ASPH is near perfect technically: I have it, and three Summicron 35's. The v3 is a fine '70s era optic of medium contrast. Besides the real difference in FOV, you have to decide if high contrast and transparent rendition is your cup of tea. In my M collection, the ASPH is the odd man out: a Summaron 28/5.6 LTM would serve better in that regard. Sadly, the size, ergos and price of the ASPH means I can never give it up.
Even Leica can't design a lens like this ever time.

Thanks for the advice. There are just too many factors involved. Now i'm thinking of keeping the 28mm Elmarit and the 35mm cron v3 and selling the 35mm lux pre apsh. Reason is that both the 28mm Elmarit and the 35mm cron v3 has a closer focusing distance than the lux....
Anyone here who has a different opinion?

The 28/2.8 ASPH and 35/2.0 v3 would make a better combination than the 35/1.4 pre-ASPH, IMHO. Same filter size, same hood, similar close-focus distance.

kzphoto - I wish i could... got a baby on the way and i have to let go of one.
Gabor - While that is what im leaning to, but i'm torn because the 35mm lux has a character that i absolutely love.
The alternative is to sell the 35mm lux and save $$ in the future to get a 35mm lux asph... Then i will have all the character, the close focusing distance and the extra stop.

Core funk, congratulations and best wishes.
I'd keep the Cron and the Elmarit. The pre-ASPH lux doesn't really seem to fit the rest of your stable if you want close-focus optics and a more modern look.
