I just got back from a dive trip to Indonesia, where I stayed on a boat for 11 nights and took images of underwater marine life around North Sulawesi in Indonesia.

While on a dive, a turtle nearly brushed against my arm while trying to take an image of something else. I can't decide which turtle image I prefer and request your help.

So I ask, which of the following three hawksbill turtle images do you prefer?

TURTLE #!

TURTLE #2

TURTLE #3

If you would like to see the other images in the gallery, you can see them at the following location:

I did not take any of my rangefinders as I knew I would be on a boat for 11 days and was afraid they might get wet. However, my D300 has a housing to keep it dry when I'm taking images underwater :)

Thanks for the feedback!

#3 for me too. Better composition, and you get a good sense of the environment, while still seeing that big huge turtle in the foreground!

I admit that I'm surprised. I really thought that probably Turtle #1 would be everyone's pick and my guess is that it was going to be between Turtle #1 and Turtle #2. I liked how close the Turtle was to me in the first image. I just threw in Turtle # 3 at the last minute, thinking that because the turtle was not facing the camera, that it was not a good shot. Boy, was I surprised. It seems a lot of you like Turtle # 3 and it's caused me to look at the image differently than I had before.

Thank you all for the feedback and taking the time to share with me your thoughts.

3 for me as well. IMHO better relationship between the "water horizon" and the "landscape", like the colors better too. Great shots though.

Ellen,

Just a comment, okay?
You are asking others to relate to your experience shooting these shots.
None of us would be able to do that because none of us were with you in that experience.

All we could do is to imagine and look at these pictures from its technical merits. So please consider this when you're reading the answers.

Having said that, I'd put a big print of #1 and #3 side by side on a wall. I'd be proud too if I took these :)

#1 goes well with the story itself (nearly bumping into a turtle and all), but #3 works better to me as a standalone image of the scene. They're images of different things to me.

Ellen,
I would pick #3. Also #2145 (coral & diver) is a spectacular image. Thanks for posting these, I liked all of them.
