What caused this? Processing? or the Camera is at fault?

Hello everyone, I just got back my 1st non test roll(test roll was fine). My leica M2 film negative got messed up, but my Canon a1 was fine, it wasn't the best though. Really sucked to be honest with you. Could it be the processor who messed up the roll? It seems like it was the camera.

Here are some examples:

From Canon A1:

As you can see, the A1 processed nicely.
Please help me figure out what happened to the leica negatives.

Thanks!
John

Edit: Sorry if the picture is too big. Also, I used a 200 ISO walgreens film.
Edit 2: Crap. the bandwidth exceeded, I posted new ones, sorry for the technical difficulties

That doesn't look like a processing error to me, it looks almost like the second curtain is sticking. Was the whole roll like this or just that shot?

The whole roll was like this. My test roll didn't have this problem though. I don't have scans from that one, but I tested all the shutter speeds, etc. and it looks good.

Other shots are different, but the left part of the picture is underexposed.

Could it be that I loaded the film wrong or something?

I'll try to get another film developed tomorrow or something. Good thing the seller is going to pay for repairs if this problem occurs again.

I had similar issue on my M3.

Randy, what did you end up doing?

I took a video of the back of the m2 with an attached processed negative next to a light source to see if there's a light leak, but didn't see anything. So, light leak isn't the problem.

Shutter problem. Shoot a test roll, using all available shutter speeds and recording the speed for each frame. If you have a couple of ND filters you should be able to test the slow speeds too. I suspect the problem is worse at the faster speeds.

Yes indeed. The closing curtain is hanging up in the course of its run. Time for a shutter overhaul.

My M4-2 shutter is off at 1/1000 and 1/500 ... the slit travels faster at one end than at the other, and it's more off at 1/1000 than 1/500. By 1/250 the error is under a third of a stop. This is fairly typical due to age, wear and old lubricant. It's likely never been CLA'ed since 1978.

At some point, I'll have it overhauled. I'm not shooting enough film, or needing critical exposure at high speeds enough, to warrant it just yet.

Stroked the lever half way to show the metal part of the curtain. Does this show capping? Sorry for my ignorance this is my first leica and I'm a beginner at film photography

Hold it up to a light source with lens off, look through the back, and fire the shutter . In my case I could clearly see a bright band at one side of the curtain.

Well, contacted Youxin, he said he'll adjust it for free since it's still covered by the warranty. So happy about this!

Thanks
John
