From inside an abandoned Kodak factory

In 2004, the Kodak factory in North Coburg closed up shop for good. It's been sitting vacant and disheveled ever since. I found these images on a blog I follow, entitled Diversal (http://www.thisisdiversal.com). Just as a disclaimer, these aren't my shots.

Interesting that this is in Australiia ... a country that takes up new technology rapidly. We have one of the highest per capita ownership rates of PC's, mobile phones etc in the world and I have yet to see a fellow photographer using a film camera in my travels.

funnily enough I talked about this place with a guy from work about two months ago - as I use film and he told me he had done a job for Kodak previously.

I rarely see film photographers in Australia, that are Australian - mostly ex-pats from o/s. But people are surprised to see that my camera takes film when they notice it and ask about it.

My guess as to the lack of film photographers in Australia probably comes down to the same reason there aren't a whole lotta Kiwi film photographers; The prices. In New Zealand, 30 bucks for a roll of Velvia, around 15 for a roll of Tri-X and 20 for HP5+ (Give or take a few bucks depending on the vendor)... Sound familiar, Aussies?

Anyway, these images are pretty cool, must've been quite an experience for the photographers/urb-exers

there are actually a lot of film shooter in Sydney, more than many may think. not all films here are horrendously expensive and most photographers that i know order from O/S. i know probably10-15+ photographer personally that shoot film in Sydney, a number of them shoot film exclusively like myself. i know of 4 or 5 in NZ as well, a handful in Melbourne and a couple in Brisbane. All are under 30 (most in their early 20's), and most of them are very prolific shooters.
