Hi all,

I never use the meter in my MP (new version). My question is, can I replace the rear panel on my MP, which has the bulky ISO dial, with a rear panel from say an M3, which is much flatter and better looking. Alternatively, can I switch out the MP ISO dial itself with a flatter version?

Yes, I know, I could just buy an M3 or another M, but I like my plain, black chrome MP.

Any help his much appreciated. Thanks.

back door from an MP classic? Personally I prefer the backs from BP m4's with black dials. I don't see there would be a problem fitting one of those. I'll try my M2 door on the MP later to see if it closes properly.

Next you can blank off the battery cover with a flush fitting cover, shouldnt be too hard to lathe one up and then recover it. Instant MP classic!

Cool thanks. Yes, the BP M4 dial would probably be much better. I wrote to both DAG and YYe to see what they say also.

M2 door fits and I dont see any reason an M4 wont. If your MP is black chrome then how about the back door from an M4-2 or M4-P. They have the flat dials like the classic and the finish would match the camera. All you need is some recovering.

selling the MP, you could have the cash for a very clean M2/M4 and then some change, with a big plus: more accurate frames. The only reason I keep a "newer" Leica along with my M2 is the meter and the 0.58x finder...

The only time I notice the increased profile of my M6 ISO dial is when I want to squeeze it into my M4-2 case. I don't think it's worth doing.

Actually the M4P has no dial at all - just a plastic disk with numbers, glued on and that can be easily removed. You can then ask Aki to cut you a back-door cover with no dial .... :)

If you'll really do this, you might want to cover the meter contacts with electrical tape ?

Then again, you can just buy yourself a plain, black chrome M4P (the brass version), and ask DAG, Steve or Sherry to upgrade the viewfinder.
