I've been hearing so much about the Russian winter that I dropped my favorite FSU repairer and dealer, Oleg Khalyavin a note, asking how he was doing.
His response was typical unflappable Oleg: "...Here is common wether - today is -21C, last week was -25-30 degrees celsius scale...
Not a problem, really... Both cars works good, heating at my new house working fine too!
Cold - is not too bad. Snow - is not too bad... Just a part of our life here.... "
Incidentally, if you are lusting for a Barnack clone, it looks like Oleg has the market cornered on Zorki 1 cameras and lenses.

I for one, much prefer the Zorki versions of the Leica II to any of the similar Feds that I've owned.

So typical of Oleg.....we do take our life's gifts for granted sometimes.
I agree I think the Zorki's are a better copy of the Leica II.

Oleg is in Yoshkar-Ola, a city in the
Republic of Mari El, Russian Federation,
Yep - Russia, as we used to call it.

I'll have to pull out the atlas (or Google it).

Found it -- 500+ miles east of Moscow (!). That is one big country -- and that's still the European part.

Good to hear from Oleg!
The last two weeks we had also strong winter in central Europe.
We had several day with less than - 10 °C and even - 19 °C on monday morning.
(I am at a place halfway between Hamburg an Hannover at working days now.)
I have two Zorki I and they are my favorite FSU cameras. I have them both in my camera bag right now, one with a I-22 the other one with a J-12.
(But I also like my FED-2 which was (and still is) my first real camera in 1991 (I got it a few months before the collaps of the SU). Oleg did a perfect job on it and one of the Zorkis.)

My Fed 2 finally crapped out on me but my Zorki 2s is smooth as butter. Just loaded a 100asa film & screwed on the Jupiter 12. Realized I hardly have any shots taken with this lens.
