I received a replacement for my broken down Minolta X-700 from a good friend, so I had to check it out right away. The weather was getting ready to change due to a large storm out in the Midwest, and the skies were getting very dramatic. It was perfect for using the Auto feature, as I wanted to emphasize the clouds more than the foreground.
I put an Albinar 28mm Macro lens on the camera to be able to catch some sweeping vistas, and some close-up flower shots. Then I had to find places without power lines in the way. These were all shot on Kodak Ektar 100, then commercially developed and scanned at CVS Pharmacy onto a Kodak CD. I did have to correct for the overly dark foregrounds in a few shots, and also touched up all the spots in the scans by running the photos through PSE8. Most of them are 8x10 crops, but the third and second from the end are unrestricted crops, and the last one is full frame.

At least they mow the grass around it.

Green As It Gets by br1078phot, on Flickr
The grass at Walrond looks it's best in the spring. Used the AE Lock on this shot to get the foreground properly exposed, and then darkened the sky in PSE8.

Roanoke Regional about to be covered up in shadow.

Overshadowed by br1078phot, on Flickr
RoanokeCountyRecreationCenter on Wood Haven Road. Looks like I missed a spot on the edge of the frame.

On close final, the planes can come in fairly low over the rec center. And this is one of the smaller jets. Having the camera set on Auto helped here.

It's kind of interesting how a small cloud will form right in front of a larger one.

Juxtaposition counts in photography.

Storm clouds are taking over for a couple of days.

The center of the storm was west of St. Louis, MO when I took this shot in Roanoke, VA.
