Just noticed that an online vendor here in Europe has started selling AgfaPhoto APX 400 in bulk - made in Germany with the expiration date: 12-2014.
I thought APX 400 was long gone. Anybody know if this is the real stuff -
Or did I miss a news flash?
100ft./30.5 m film is a lot to buy - only to find out it is not what you expected.
Cheers,

Well, ADOX is making the ADOX PAN 400, which is essentially APX 400, but according to their website mass production has not begun yet.

Maybe the ones you saw are leftover stocks? (dm, a German drugstore chain, are still selling APX 100 from remaining stocks, for example.)

The Agfaphoto APX 100 and 400 are produced by a third party under license from Agfaphoto. I bought 10 rolls of APX 100 last month. The name of the manufacturer is on the box, but I can't remember it right now.

Re: the old stock, Yeah - I've seen APX 100 around as well (Though until now - not APX 400). I think it was the expiration date the got my attention tho', as I would have thought old stock, would have a shorter exp. date on it ?
Edward - have you tried any APX 400 by any chance? - it would be interesting to know if it is close to/ the same as the old stuff. Wonder who the third party APX 400 manufacturer is?
Cheers,

I am not sure about the manufacturer, but on the box it says Made in Germany and its manufactured for and distributed by www.lupus-imaging-media.com
I have tried only the APX 100 and the tonality is amazing.

Their webstore, as well as the official AgfaPhoto website, only list APX 100 as available. So, I would -- again -- strongly suspect that the 400 available is leftover stock.

Can you point us in the direction of the vendor in question so we can take a look?

On a side note - they also list double-x pre rolled in canisters as well.

They've also got HP5+ expired 30m rolls at a great price. I've just ordered two. http://www.foto-r3.com/en/ilford-hp5-305-metros-52010.html

Lupus/Agfaphoto seem inclined to use their brand for evil purposes, and have done so in the past where CN film was concerned - some Agfacolor branded batches that hit German chain drugstores after original Agfa stock ran out were obviously Ferrania's worst.
But re-packaging a third party product that is as low-volume and esoteric as black and white bulk is hardly profitable even if they'd do it for world distribution - nobody would bother to do so for a solitary Spanish dealer. This will be old stock, perhaps with a excessively optimistic shelf life estimate (the last APX 400 widely distributed in Germany expired in late 2010).

I suppose it may have been frozen, to explain the exp. date, but otherwise I have to agree with sevo. I think you can assume it's the real thing. Not a lot of it, at any rate (25 in stock).

Hi,
all AgfaPhoto APX 400 which is currently sold is still old stock from the last production run 2005 in Agfas old plant in Leverkusen, Germany.
This stuff with the updated expiration date is stock from the freezer.
There is no new production so far.
InovisCoat (www.inoviscoat.de) and Adox are working on a successor, which then shall be sold as Adox Pan 400 and AgfaPhoto APX 400.
But as Adox has said several times, this film will be different from the original (they try to make it with finer grain and as a real ISO 400 film; APX 400 has only about 250).
No one knows at the moment when this film will hit the market.
Cheers, Jan
