If I wanted to experiment with Vision 3, how exactly does one go about getting a 400' load into a still canister? Any issues with perf tolerances that I should know about?
Or, alternatively... how close is Portra 160, really? Maybe you can save me the trouble altogether. Thanks.

You can also try these guys: http://www.ecn-2.com/
$30/roll is a bit pricey but considering this includes processing and scanning I don't think it's that bad. Also, they have a few comparisons with Portra 400 on their site.

For experiments you could always try asking around for a short end of film from one of the motion picture dealers or on a mailing list rather than buying a 400' full tin. However unless you use can use a specialist processor like http://www.ecn-2.com/ with the Vision stock then you are going to have a hell of a time getting the remjet anti-halation backing off the film without trashing your chemicals. As far as I recall from playing with b/w motion picture stock a number of years ago things like perf tolerances aren't an issue.
