Canon canoscan 2710, any tips?

So Win7 doesn't need ASPI?
Pity Scancraft isn't working in Win7, in Vuescan I don't like way adjustments to scan are made. Probably that can be learned 🙂

Aparently not. I tried to install Silverfast, and it has the option to install aspi but it kept crashing when installing. Anyway, no need for that, only what i wrote earlyer. Or one could go out and buy a scsi to usb adapter. Cheers

This is an old topic, but..
Could this canoscan fs2710 be used with a laptop with win 7?
I can not put the scsi card in this laptop, at least I think so, right?
So if I use an scsi-usb adapter, what do you think, would it work? Or does someone have any experience with a similar situation?

If you do an internet search for 'SCSI USB adapter troubles' and you'll find plenty of discussions on plenty of boards. Considering that that FS2710 isn't exactly as portable as a laptop you may just consider buying or finding a used very cheap old computer and get an SCSI PCI card for it. Then you'll just need drivers and a program, of which I suggest Vuescan for just about any OS.

There are USB SCSI adapters out there, but they are usually pretty spendy and who knows what's supported. You say Win7, is that 32 bit or 64 bit. There's even less support for 64 bit OS's.

I have 64-bit win 7.
I considered getting an old computer for scanning, but I really would not like to get an extra computer, takes too much space.
I sent an email to canon, have not received an answer yet but I have no high hopes with them.
I asked local shop for an adapter and they had one for 25€, which I think is not that expensive, but I am wondering will it still work even if I could "plug" that scanner in.

Well you do have a laptop, maybe you can bring it in and verify that the adapter will work on your system (assuming you're already in possession of the scanner). Keep in mind that most USB>SCSI connectors are probably made with printers in mind, mostly output. A scanner is mostly input. There are SCSI hard drives though, and that would be 2-way. I'm not up on all of the nuances of the SCSI protocol, but when Universal Serial Bus (USB) came around the Universal part of it was the magic part.

side note: the locals here pronounce SCSI as Scuzzy. I had a few phone conversations with various shops inquiring about a PCI card and most of the younger guys didn't have a clue. When one tech finally said "Oh, you mean Scuzzy" all of the rest of my conversations went much smoother.
