I like mike666's results, but bhphoto.com charges $450 for the close-up adapter kit. I'd be inclined to spend the money on an SLR with a macro lens.

YES... $450.00 is a lot of money to spend if considering purchasing a *NEW* Mamiya Close Up Adapter Kit (for the 80mm Lens)... Considering all that it is (A fancy 'Foldable Frame' and 'Diopter Lens').

However, if one is patient enough... I have seen them come up on *bay and elsewhere for less than a third of the MSRP -- Of what a new one usually goes for.
(I picked up one last year (New In The Box)... For less than $150.00).

At that price... If you already own the 80mm, IMHO it ranks as a 'nice accessory' to play around with (especially when one considers how good the optics of the 80mm truly are). :)

NOW CUT THAT OUT!

That link to the article on macro photography with a FED 35mm rangefinder is starting to induce a serious case of GAS for a Leitz Focaslide for my IIIf (and extension rings, and a 90mm or 135mm lens).

I'm intrigued! I'm gonna keep my eye out for a used one. Does anyone have any more photos with this contraption? Can someone explain how it works.

That's a lot of trouble to go to with a 450 USD adaptor on a rangefinder, and still be subject to a lot of guesswork. You will be infinitely happier just complementing your 7 with an RB67 and the amazing 140mm Macro, which could be had for the same money. You'll never have, for example, this level of subtle control:

This combination cost me less than 400USD. I do want a 7ii though!

I previously owned an RZ and while I loved it, traveling to the opposite coast with family and an RZ kit was a bit much. The mamiya 7ii is perfect for 99.5% of the time. The close-up kit would be handy for those rare times that I need to get in close.

Well, it all depends on the level of dedication involved - last year, my wife and I went on a (wonderful, remote) three-week road trip, and I dragged my RB67, four lenses (37mm, 65mm, 140mm, 250mm) and a heavy Gitzo tripod along - shot only Pan F, made some large prints, and I am thrilled with the results.

I keep on messing with large format (well, more than "messing" - I'm quite serious about it) but at least once a month I realise that the RB67 is the most perfect camera ever created.

I would love to supplement it with a 7 - might sell some of the more exotic Olympus OM gear to fund one - but I don't think I could live with only a 7. Certainly not for it's close-focus abilities.

I do acknowledge the amazing capabilities of the 7 80mm though, and I wish you luck in getting a cheap close-up gizmo for your close-up needs!
 
Bummer deal!
I just paid $150.00 for the NK701 kit on eBay.
I got it with a KENKO close up lens!
NOT the Mamiya branded close up kit.
Sigh, can some one show pics of the CORRECT close up lens? With the wording?
I angry, at myself too.

Didn't want to make a separate thread on a subject that already exists.
This thread comes up in a Goggle search.
And I would consider the information here reliable.

Anywho, Japanese eBay seller said to keep what I have, and refunded monies.
So, I have now purchased another complete kit with the correct lens from Hong Kong seller.
I really want to start using my NIB Mamiya 7II kit.

Yes, I know it isn't a macro rig, and close up is better via SLR, and I have all the other stuff via Mamiya RZ67 Pro II kit, digital SLR, etc, etc, etc...
