HU: R-D1 for $1000

Nice heads up.

I discovered to my delight that this is a twenty minute job if your reasonably dextrous and the information on the procedure is all on our bartender's web site. :)

At least at adorama they know what it is. I mentioned it at b+h once, and they had no idea such a camera existed.

Once when I was at Adorama I asked how much they'd pay for the camera, just for the sake of it. They said $1000, so I thought it wasn't too bad (I had zero intention on selling it though). Then they mentioned if I had the back caps for the lens... only then I figured out they meant $1000 for the R-D1 AND the LTM 12mm Heliar. laughable...

I think it is a good price, but I will not buy from adorama. Not because they sold anything wrong, but their wrong attitude when they buy something. They buy a lot of things via ebay especially for RF gears, then they try to find anything wrong or not mentioned on ebay ad. If they find, they are going to ask a partial refund, not a little. Doesn't matter you put SOLD AS-IS on your ad or not, they do that.

I had a problem with one buyer on Ebay, then I refused to give back a partial refund. In the mean time, I got an email from other seller who got exactly the same problem to what I have with the same buyer. The buyer opened a claim via Paypal, not because I refused the return, but because I refused a partial refund. haha.. I got my item back finally, then it turned out the buyer was one of adorama employee. My item came back with adorama box and their receipt (even it was a return). I had to deal with ebay and paypal for long time to resolve the claim. (the claim ended with my favor even though I accepted a return). Only good thing was they cleaned my item so it looks much better than before. haha..

Anyways, I do not think they are honest enough at least for me to buy something.

They buy to re-sell & make a profit so of course they would offer about half what THEY will sell it for. Same with selling to any photo dealer.

yes, and in today's market that IS laughable.

you can say that it's not worth it to a dealer to bother if they are only going to make 10 or 15%, well that's fine all I have to do is sell my crap on ebay or a forum and I'll still come out ahead regardless of how aggressively I feel the need to price.

it's like how Best Buy won't price match Newegg. I'll just order the damn thing off my telephone and wait a day. I can actually take a picture of the box and use that to buy what I want. being rigid and old fashioned about this is why big box stores that aren't walmart are getting destroyed by online sellers.

and, in my opinion, for the greater good. if I want cheap + no service, online is better. and if I want pricier and good service, why should I bother with someone like Adorama? I can find a store where they know who I am even if I only buy a roll of film every other week.

I know, that's how they stay in the business, what does puzzles me is how come people will sell to shops when they can put it on *bay or some photography forums and sell for the actual market price, since shops will pay so little.

Convenience.

What I feel from the times I visited Adorama is that most sellers don't really know what they're selling. I was once looking for a 35/1.4 SC Nokton for a friend (told him to buy through cameraquest but he was worried there would be not enough time for it to arrive), the salesman was trying to convince me that the MC version they had was probably the SC version, which I knew it wasn't. Another time I bought a 90/2.8 Elmarit from the website, the thumbnail was of a modern, M-Elmarit. when the box arrived at the hotel... it was an old 90/2.8 Elmarit. pretty frustrating. I was in NYC a few days later so I returned it, no hassle, but never again I'm shopping for used gear there.
