Less than 2 weeks ago I won a bid on a pre-war Bessa.

A few minutes ago I won an Isolette.

I shoot 120 about 2 times a year, if that. In fact, the last time I shot 120 properly was 2 years ago…

:bang: I will stay off that damned site from now on…had to cancel a bid on a Voigtländer TLR (can't remember which one, don't want to go back and check ) in case I won it

But after shooting a test roll through the Bessa, I see the allure of the folders…they just disappear until you need them…no shut up and go to bed! *slaps self*

Sigh. I'll justify it with that box of 120 I still have left (literally a box).

Should go hiking this summer. Then I'll be able to use them properly…I mean I guess it's nice that cameras "make" you get off the computer and go for a walk (else I'd really be at my desk for 16 hours a day in the holidays).

After this post I still feel guilty…and I probably will until I lay my hands on the camera and start shooting :D

I think the main reason I stopped shooting 120 after that one time 2 years ago was because the Mamiya 645 is…ridiculously heavy. Even with the waist-level finder. Hopefully I'll be able to explore more with the folders. Oh, and it was impossible to use in low-light (my grandpa used to shoot at 0.5s and slower with his Hasselblad + 80; I can't).

Still awaiting the bill.

Indeed, but the Bessa's almost impossible to use handheld in Hong Kong with our current weather. Constantly shooting on bulb.

I have 2 Bessa II's, one with skopar and one with heliar. It is just such a great break from the convenience of digital and even 35mm film to slowly compose a picture and set the shutter, etc. with a folder that ends up giving you a HUGE negative. Lately I've even been leaving the meter home since I've discovered a couple apps for my phone that meter light well, even one that is a semi spot meter. I love the giant Bessa folders. Bob.

Man I hear ya, I'm a bit relieved to have just lost a bid on a TLR. The gamble of whether or not something will actually work is what gets to me, especially with 'clueless' sellers.

I'm only guilty when I purchase a camera and hardly ever use it...
Which reminds me, I should get rid of a Zorki or 2…

I don't shoot digital for serious things – just for snapshots. I find I can use my Kiev 4AM about as fast as I usually need to shoot. Older cameras do need more thought to use though, and it's quite a nice thing to do…almost meditative. Very relaxing (until you get it wrong :bang:).

If a seller's clueless I won't risk more than $40 (including shipping) —*it's simply too risky for me. I did once come across a seller who was willing to put a roll of film through the camera for me before I bought it though —*I paid for the film/development. That was nice.

I love taking a good folder along in a camera bag with mostly 35mm equipment. It gives me another demension. While it would be nice to have interchangable lenses and backs, I don't want to carry my whole Super Press 23 kit all the time. In fact, I probably couldn't.

So enjoy the folders. They can give some really great photos.

i am constantly amazed by the tonality of the medium format.
