I was wondering if there was any purpose to the odd shaped shutter dials found on some IIIC's. My IIIC came with one and frankly it is quite harder to grip than the usual knobs and makes double exposures quite a chore.

Oddly shaped shutter dials? Tell us more, you interesting person! :p A photo would be nice for those of us who haven't seen it before.

something like this

It's a Geiss Synchro Kontact, I believe.

Sorry, Tony, not a synchro - that is a separate piece that clamps onto a standard speed dial and has a special fitting that goes into the cold shoe - as the dial rotates, the two parts make contact and the lobe on the Syncro pushes a contact into the other part. Both methods work the same way I should think, but I don't know the maker for this one, sorry.

Yes, I sadly realized that a few seconds after I posted and then quickly and embarrassingly edited it when I found several similar discussions about the same speed dial. The ebay auction does, I believe, offer the rest of the proper synch controller. ciao!

I have one of those on my 1934 Leica.3 as well. Don't really care for it's shape myself and will probably replace it one day.

Please excuse this slightly off topic comment but the propagation of bs on the web continues to surprise me after all these years.
In an attempt to answer the question, I first went to a Leica site and found a discussion on the same dial in which it was ID'd as a Geiss. I then posted this erroneous info but I doubted it because it wasn't the same as the Geiss I had. So, I went back to a search and found my posting misidentifying the dial(!). However, also found the right one and the ebay listing for a controller. However, the original misinfo is still out there.
So, I'd like to delete my first erroneous comment and leave the EDIT if that would be OK with others on this thread. Mea culpa.

Just don't expect me to do the same. I don't have time to delete a couple thousand *erroneous comments*. :bang:
