The M9M has caused quite a stir in almost all photo forums and so far the personal views have been revealed and discussed. I thought it would be interesting for us all to have an idea about the forum members who have planned to buy the new monochrome Leica, but also about the other ones who would not buy one.
Please go ahead by stating your own view and reasons why you decided -or planning- to buy or not to buy the new Leica. While doing it, it would be better if you state whether you already have an M9 or M8; so that we all could have an idea about the extent of the real impact the M9M has caused.

yeah...i will probably buy the m9m when the m10 comes out
I think it's pretty cool, but no, I won't buy one. I use color for my work.

I bought one but already had to send it back. It was a pretty good camera, I guess, but I could never get the internal flash to pop up.

what?
I would not buy any camera at that price level.
I use a Nikon with an APS sensor, and their 35mm lens and that setup is better than I am as a photographer. My next gift to myself will be a Fuji.
The $7000 price of the new 50mm/f2.0 ? lens is way way outside my comprehension.

It's always interesting to see what I'll be buying 5 to 10 years from now
Because that's generally how far behind from the release curve I have to stay to afford my Leicas. So I expect buying a Leica M9 by next year, and the monochrom in 2017.

A little worried about highlight clipping
Looks great for us black and white shooters. My only concern is what I am reading about exposure and how if the highlights are overexposed somewhat, you cannot extract information to correct exposure. It may be more demanding for exposure accuracy. But what the hell, I also shoot 8x10 with an Pentax Digital Spot meter so it should not be a problem for me being old school.
On another note, I am absolutely shocked at the price of this new 50mm Summicron! Gee, I only paid $695 on Ebay 3 years ago for a mint late generation Summicron! Come to think of it, My Noctilux was only $4K 4 years ago on Ebay! I really cashed in eh? A buddy of mine works at Cabellas and tells me he can get any Leica product 60% off for me! It seems if Cabellas carries Leica scopes for their guns, you as an employee can order any product made by Leica even if the store does not sell it at 60% off! Hello Monocrome for me!!! Maybe it would be worth it to work at Cabellas for extra cash and reap these discounts!!!

Hello Zeiss and Voigtlander!!!
Hello Zeiss and Voigtlander!!!
Boy, 7k for that Summicron! I cannot get over this! Zeiss looks really great right now! I saw a photo of Arab sheiks at the Leica Event. They must be oil barons looking for ways to blow cash. For me, the Monochrome is expensive, but is more reasonable than the Summicron. It would make more sense to buy the M9M and get used Leica lenses or buy new Zeiss and or Voigtlander. For us normal folks, this makes the most sense. For the oil sheiks, anything goes!!!

How much B&W film will that $7K buy?
he can get any Leica product 60% off for me!
Urban legend.
But go ahead and ask for an M9 at half the regular price. You can sell it instantly with a few thousand $ margin...

1,464 rolls of 36 exp hp5 giving you 52,704 exposures. Although if you bought the 2+1 deal on hp5 at B&H you could get 2,000 rolls for 72,000 exposures. How much B&W film will that $7K buy?

Exactly! Film black and white is just classic!

No, it's not something I can justify to myself by any stretch of the imagination, no more than I could justify driving a Bentley or eating at fine restaurants every night at the week. (Aside from the fact that I'd quickly be broke if I did any one of these things.) The cost-to-performance relationship is just not acceptable.

Will not buy, but I managed to find a full HD black & white only television set for 5,000 dollars and I snapped one up. Great for blue rays!

I'm not going to buy it.
Reasons:
I bought an M9 last year.
If I hadn't I would be tempted, but if I thought about it, I would realize I enjoy photographing and printing in colour as much as I do black and white.
If I were someone who thought in black and white, and for whom black and white was my main, if not exclusive, means of expression, it would be a different story.

Nerp. I've already got a M9. No incentive to put out another $7K or so for an M9 that only shoots monochrome.

Depends on if you factor in the cost of a Nikon Coolscan, the cost for lab development or time and supplies to develop your own and the time-cost of scanning 36 frames per roll.
