I just received a beautiful M6 from another member and am trying to mount the only lens I have right now(til I buy a cron 50) which is a LTM elmar 3.5 50. I have an adapter but it seems to be able to come free from the bayonet mount? am I doing something wrong here? Or is my adapter just too crappy?(it was a cheap, i think from rainbow imaging) The adapter turns with the lens and the whole thing comes off at the camera, not the lens losing in from the adapter.
Thanks,
John

Most likely it's made of brass so, a little fixing with a file may be in order and very easy to do..
I would take the adapter off the lens and mount it to the camera and observe what exactly is preventing it from locking. Maybe it's not screwing it all the way..... Shouldn't be too hard to figure out. I'd be very surprised if you couldn't make it work by filling away the offending piece

Good thing that RFF is always there and ready to kick your ass whenever you need it

Looks like you figured out the problem already, but as someone above mentioned there's a small slot where the locking mechanism fits into the ring. On most good quality rings like the Leica ones or Voigtlander you can use a file or even just a piece of hard steel to sharpen up the corners of the slot so it locks better.
Usually what has happened is that someone tried to unscrew the lens while using the adapter on the camera - the adapter slips and the edge of the slot gets beveled making it lock poorly in the future.
