I read the first few pages of this thread a couple days ago and thought it was really interesting. I also saw that it was growing quickly... 10+ pages and counting. When I went to pick up where I left off today I couldn't find. The link was invalid!
Can anyone tell me what happened? Did it stray off course? Sad news that it was censored, if indeed it was...

Dave Lackey created that thread, so you can look under his name for it. Maybe he deleted it?

It appears to have been deleted. This is the kind of behavior that makes me wonder why I continue to (occassionally) participate in this forum.

Perhaps... who knows? And what a shame if it did. There were interesting insights, many of which were actually applicable to photography.

I was just posting to it when it was deleted.
I guess Dave deleted it when he didn't like the "impressions" that he had asked for.
Ahhh that old trick.
He's a good guy though so whatever.

Yup, he asked for opinions, didn't like all of the opinions and deleted the thread. Which had a fair few nice photos on there.

If that's the truth... then my impression just changed. Too bad.

I was enjoying the insights into the area and the pictures.

Nothing like removing a source of information for people for an unknown/unstated reason. Do all forums operate in this manner (where the OP can delete the thread), or do some forums only allow mods to delete the thread?

Varies.
The South, like most other places, has beautiful stuff, and issues some people don't like talking about.
This is Stevie Barr, an amazing Appalachian musician, playing "Bonaparte's Retreat." Icily beautiful, a Southern classic straight outta Scotland. Galax, Virginia.

In my experience this is a unique feature of RFF. All other forums I participate in are moderator-delete only, and that is rare. Generally the moderators lock threads and let the information (and "impressions", whatever they may have been) remain for future reference.

It was a touchy subject for some people here, and there may have been a clash of opinions or simply an outburst of negative feelings by some or just one person. This is my guess about what happened.

Indeed... and I even think I can hear the tune in my head!

I don't like it when entire threads are deleted. I read a few posts in that thread, and it seemed interesting. The nasty stuff can go, of course.

Completely agreed.
Unless it went into the realm of 'grossly offensive' within a matter of an hour, this is either, imvho, over-zealous moderation, or a bit of a selfish move on the part of the OP (in effect, "I got what I want out of the discussion, so now it ends for everyone.") Not saying that was the exact thought process, but one can't help wondering.
If I'm mistaken, by all means, enlighten me, but that's my initial thoughts on the matter.
