very well done, John. your piece has a strong sense of place, time and mood. i had not understood the logistics and manpower situation until now. this kind of on-the-ground situational reporting is precious to those of us who want to understand.

Thanks for your contributions, John. The articles are very well written, of course, and I wish they would show more images taken by you.

It is good that as many reports from the front come out as possible since we often get "doctored" news, depending on the politics of the week.

Vast natural gas reserves seem to have been identified in Syria. Have you heard anything about this point there, John?
