I dont have a hood for my current F-mount 21f4's. Years ago I had one that had been modified to a Leica screw-mount and I used a couple of 52mm filters (three I think) with the glass removed and 'stacked" together.
It is surprisingly flare resistant though and I have not had any problem with stray flare or veiling flare.
Nikon used to sell their lenses without hoods and many used them like that. If you bought the hoods - they usually fell off and got lost (this goes for both the Rf and F type lenses - hence scarcity).
The original hood for the Rf 21f4 is truly scarce and can bring $1000's at "collectors" auctions. It is a simple ring type hood, nothing fancy, but it does say Nikkor on it!!!
Even the original hood for a lens like the 25f4 is worth as much as the lens - if you can find one.

Do you guys use hood on the 21/4 nikkor? The original hood seems pretty hard to find.
I haven't had any trouble with flare so don't use a hood, Chris.
Considering their rarity and prices they sell for, I'd be too scared to use the original hood if I owned one

Where can I find an F - S/C adapter?
I'd love to use a 2.1cm Nikkor on my *new* (to me) SP.

Just trying to revitalize the thread. Nikkor 21mm f4.0 F-mount on a Nikon S2 (with Cosina F-S adapter). Kodak 5231 +X movie stock - rated at 100 iso and developed in Beutler 1:1:10/6 min.
Chrome valve cover on a 225 cu" slant six!!!!!

Did Nikon ever produce the RF 21/4 in LTM?

I don't think so. I'm really interested in the symmetrical non-retrofocus superwides like this one, the Super Angulon, the Canon 19, etc.
They just don't make 'em like they used to!

Thanks heavens, there's one less lens to lust after! I've been bitten by the LTM Nikkor bug. So far I have: 28/3.5, 35/2.5, 35/1.8, 50/3.5 rigid, 50/2, 50/1.4, 85/2, 105/2.5. If there's no 21/4, I think the only ones left I'd want are: 25/4, 50/3.5 Micro (yeah, right) and 50/2 collapsible.

Extremely hard to find. I think the F -S/C adapter is rarer than the S-mount 2.1cm Nikkor, and there's only 298 of those.

I know that bug, Ari
If I would shoot wider than 28, I would try the F-mount 21/4 with an F/M adapter (for example by Kipon, for US 88 ...).

Ari, you're missing the 85/1.5! Except you'll have to use it on a Nikon RF.
Looking at the price difference between the LSM 25/4 and the S mount lens, you could buy the Nikon RF lens AND a Mint S2 or Exc SP for the cost of the screwmount rarity. Wow.

The 85/1.5 was made in LTM as well as S-mount and Contax mount. The only S-mount Nikkors not made in LTM are the Nikkor-O 2.1cm f4 and Nikkor-T 10.5cm f4.

Thanks for the correction Jon, I guess the 85/1.5 is rare enough that I couldn't find one nor have I ever seen one for sale.

Oh yeah, forgot about the 85/1.5! Thanks for reminding me (I think).
I've seen the LTM 25/4 sell for as low as $800 (I managed to snooze through that one on eBay, user condition but with hood!) and as high as $2500 (B&H near mint with caps and case) One day I'll rationalize treating myself to a decent example, but not today.
