Ah, a project for life.:angel:
July 2012 marks the beginning of a multi-year project. A journey through the The Deep South. All of you on RFF have been a part of the planning and hard work to this point, with not only help with your impressions of the southern region of this region of the United States, but also in your generosity with assistance and even gear.
The region is rich in heritage and mystery. I have lived in a part of it, Georgia, all my life but have limited knowledge of the other 4 States which comprise The Deep South, shown in dark red below:
The journey will include a half dozen tours and stays in Lousiana, Mississippi, Alabama, Georgia and South Carolina. There is overlap area in Texas, Tennessee, North Carolina and Florida.
A documentary of this magnitude will require thousands of photos of my impressions of this region.
In a previous life, I was a professional city/town/regional planner, adjunct professor at Georgia Tech, surveyor, architectural and civil engineer and a land developer over numerous decades from 1967-2008. Since 2008, I have been working on a series of documentaries of small towns in Georgia, a project that is still ongoing.
The Deep South project may or may not be completed in my lifetime but it is an endeavor that I feel deep inside that I must do...the same feeling that led me to begin documenting small towns in my home State.:angel:
So, this post is just the first step in documenting this journey. It is a commitment and dedication to a huge undertaking.
My work has always included the Leica M3+Summarit 1.5 and the Leica R4_50 Cron for black and white film images. This project will include color images with the Leica X1 to give a different pov and format presentation. The final document will include a video.
What is the story that will be told?
We will have to wait and see as it unfolds.

Dave: distantly related: see if you can get a copy of the current issue of the Delta Airlines in flight magazine. It contains a series of articles about Clarksdale MS and the MS delta region. It is very well done and might entice you to make that your first location.
