DIY M8.2 Case

I was looking for a case of some kind to house my M8.2. After having a look around I decided I wasn't happy with anything I found on the market. Everything was too bulky or too expensive or didn't suit for a variety of other reasons. I wanted something which would allow my to get the camera out quickly with a minimum of fuss, that would hold the camera securely, protect it from knocks etc. As I carry an messenger type bag most of the time anyway I thought something to fit in that would be ideal.

Through work I was looking at 3d printing and am already familiar with 3D CAD so I have designed and am currently having fabricated a holster which will sit inside my messenger bag. My plan is to cover it in a soft fabric or neoprene, stitch in a cleaning cloth to wipe the screen as it goes in and out as well as keep it protected. I'll look to add something shock absorbing such as foam to protect as necessary.

The link below shows my design. I have included circular spaces in the base and side where I will attach small self-adhesive magnets. I plan to stitch into the lining of my bag opposite magnets so the case/holster can be easily removed but won't come out with the camera when I need it. Its only a prototype but I think it will serve my purpose well. Design below - I'd love to hear what people think.

I like it! Nice idea and nice beginning plan. I usually use a soft cloth to wrap my M9 into before stuffing it into the M-classic bag, something like this with smooth inside lining would be a good thing. Bob.

Meant to add that I reckon total price should be less than £50 (GBP). I might think about refining it depending how this first one goes.

This is a beautiful design of my favorite way to secure a camera in a bag. Originally I did this to an everready case and have since made them out of 1/4" foam and leather. I connect two inline with velcro bottoms to attach to the bag, with extra foam on the bottom for the occasional hard set down.
I suggest less height to the back for a better grip when removing camera. If you only use one lens, then the lens cradle and cap is okay, but not if you use different lenses of different diameters and lengths.

Thanks Fred, I've designed the back to cover the screen and wheel/buttons by a fairly minimal amount. I wanted them protected but as you mentioned still be able to get a decent grip. At the moment I've only got the one lens so it works for me. Another design feature which I incorporated was a bar along the bottom so any fabric I put in can be hooked/velcro'd on so it doesn't come out with the camera.
