Here is a link to a video story of the Lucky Film Corp in China stopping film production.
They were the 3rd largest film manufacturer in the world after Kodak and Fuji.

VIDEO: COLOR FILM PHOTOGRAPHY FADES IN CHINA
well, according to many photographers Lucky film looked faded when it still was around anyway...
I'd say this is good news for Kodak and Fuji, providing they get to deliver to the Chinese market!!!
And, maybe Fotokemika can get a hold of those machines real cheap!?

Were they still coating, or have they merely run out of the last master rolls? Supposedly they already converted to coating flat panels years ago.

I thought it was great film. Anyway, the writing on the wall is very clear. Dump your film cameras now before they devalue to nothing. Fuji film is next:

I cannot find any reference to Fujifilm stopping film production in the article you linked?

Not so sure, with all of the recent news, that this can be interpreted as good for anyone. Film appears to just be a legacy product being supported by these companies out of nostalgia unfortunately. Maybe not Ilford though...

Just wondering are there any boutique film manufacturers or is making film limited to larger industrial operations?

Not unexpected. The number of film manufacturers will shrink down to what demand could "feed".. then it will stabilize for another longer period.

just checking to be sure i'm reading this right - both links refer specifically to COLOR film production, right? Any word one way or the other on black and white?

Dedicated black and white makers are fairly boutique scale, and those that survive the next few years will probably last for decades or even centuries. But the recent demise of Efke goes to show that even the smallest ones can be affected - for now they face the dumping prices from industrial scale competitors whose production lines have a minimum output above what the market can absorb.

The best camera is one that still works!
If the Chinese don't want to make something then it's future looks bad!
Of course they may just be clearing the decks in preparation for their purchase of all Kodak's coating lines.

Does 'Lucky ends production of color film' mean 'no more Lucky film'? Cos here in Indonesia, they are well known for their SHD100 BW line, not their color negatives. So I'd like to hear your observation, does this mean the end of their film business entirely? Many thanks.

Colour film is gone according to the Shanghai Exchange official news release.
No announcement of b/w. Last year Lucky did state they would be transitioning all their coating systems towards non-photographic purposes.

I think I had a bigger withdrawal when ERA went extinct and Fujifilm stopped Neopan1600.
If the announcement was for Lucky color films, I don't think they're that popular anyway.

I rather liked the color Lucky 35mm. The B&W was dirty cheap in Seoul, but I didn't like the blooming look it always had (likely the lack of the anti-halation layer).
The color was faded, but it went very well with some of the rural/palace shots I took while iI was there.

Thinking about it, the lack of anti-halation made any lens look like it has the "Leica glow"!

Lucky's been near-dead for a while, their production paused and resumed numerous times throughout recent years. Good to see it has now took the last stroke and could finally rest in peace.
Another Chinese film, the Shanghai GP3, is still offered in 120 format. A pretty nice option though, for the thicker back paper used in recent batches.

General Motors is moving much of it's operations to China. They needed more room to build cars.

Era and Lucky film has become very hard to find here in China. You can get it on taobao (the chinese ebay) but there is not much to be had and a lot of it is very close to the expiration date.
