Why no more leaked info on the M10?

With only a few days to go until the supposed announcement of the M10, why have we only seen a couple of 'spy shots' of the supposed M10 body from a user using what looked to be live view?

Surely the camera has been out for field testing for a number of months - is it that they're just too busy shooting, or the Leica NDA is water-tight?

Every other major manufacturer seems to have leaks - Fuji, Sony, Pentax, Hasselblad just to name a few in the lead up to photokina...

Oh well... not long to wait :D

Why join the pack when you're lead dog? This is not to say that Leica makes the best camera in the world. Only that they have a unique product and don't need to hype it with "leaks" the way the rest of the industry does.

I can't imagine trying to shoot video with an RF. Even with focus peaking.

I don't see why not. With a good LCD it actually makes a lot of sense using something like a 'M10' for semi-pro video - assuming it had things like audio in, great LCD and accessory manufactures support it with add-ons.

i looked theother daya thread where it tells about the new m10 capabilities...but i can´t see where they put all the electronics to do so...

And on the other hand leica loves to have everlasting models...in the case of the m8 they never made any special products such as the m8 titanium, hermes or so....the m9 instead even has a monochrome version...as long with many many other specialties....
So my question is if leica is going to drop the m9 and render thier special models obsolete to the market that can spend large amounts of bucks for these primes...

cheers!

About a year ago I asked the head guy at Leica NJ about video in an M. He laughed and said, never, that is not what the M series is about.

There are a distinct lack of 'real' rumours about the M10, the gossip being primarily wish lists from people who think Leica are reading their posts and building a camera just for them.

So I'd say it won't happen this year for two reasons. The first is that Leica have more important things to do in introducing a compact camera system. The second that if the resolution is as high as it needs to be (to be competitive) it will exceed that of the MM (but with the ability to use colour as well). Which will make the MM the shortest lived camera in the history of photography, something bound to piss MM buyers off and cause general dismay that Leica can pull the rug out from under peoples feet so quickly and so cynically.

I sometimes wonder how much spying goes on in the industry ... do the major manufacturers attempt to get inside information on their competitors up coming products?

Cameras like the new Sony full frame P&S are obviously in the pipeline some time before we hear about them and it's not like industrial espionage is a new thing!

The Canon and Nikon leaks just gather more interest, and the often the same rumour/leak just gets propagated for weeks between the different websites. Leica is a bit more niche, so less interest.

My guess is that the Leica leaks are actual real leaks and the other ones (Sony, Fuji) are PR-controlled "leeks"...

For one, trends tend to be discussed on industry gatherings way before they even materialize into products - in the past, the Japanese camera industry even had a reputation for being centrally steered by a joint board.

For the other, there is not that much of a point in spying on product designs - once the thing is out on the street you can copy it, and the first one to market isn't necessarily the most successful one either. Industrial espionage tends to centre more around production and marketing, as these define the profitability and success of a product more than its design, and have secret aspects (which the product does not have, post release).

Maybe there isn't even an M10 coming...:rolleyes::p

I thought of this. Until you mention it. Which makes me think it must be coming. I remember on photo.net when one member in August 2009 was ridiculed right up to the wire for proposing that a FF digital M really was imminent and that his camera dealer told him when he would be getting some. He was dismissed as a naive nut. Everyone then knew that it was impossible to provide a full frame sensor for M lenses with that flange to film plane distance. Until it was released.

I can't imagine anyone who buys an MM is the sort of person who would be saying to themselves, upon hearing about a new camera, "Doh! I could have had a camera that shoots color! Why didn't I wait?!"

The rat race of comparing numbers in the marketing feature count ...:bang:
Have a look at some properly exposed shots with either the M9 or the MM. Unless you want a wallpaper size print to be examined with a magnifier, then both of these cameras are competitive enough already in terms of real world picture quality.
For me this means handheld photography and not laboratory comparison shots mounted on a 45 lbs tripod.

+1 ;).

No, no. Even 22 lb is quite enough.

Cheers,
