If you go to the German site it says the lens will focus down to 55cm, which is much less than a traditional 2.8F/FX. It makes me wonder whether they kept the lens formula but prolonged the the focusing rail, or it is an entirely new lens design.
But at the price they are charging these days, an older 2.8F with Rolleinar might just be as fine from photography point of view.

Makes sense. I also like the look and feel of a nicely kept E or F -- or the Bauhaus goodness of an MX-EVS. Gorgeous in a kind of "replica" way, the new FX-N is either good news or the last hurrah for TLRs, or both. But requires more spare change than I can find in the sofa.

Quite the looker. Now if only I could find that 5k I had left in my other pants...

It looks amazing, but thankfully it makes me feel more like loading another roll into my 2.8C than forking over 5 grand.

I bought a brand new TLR once - a Yashicamat 124G back in about 1985. I still have it. Should I upgrade?

I have dealt with that seller more than once. I also bought a new Rolleiflex FW from him.

Is the Apogon still the same Planar lens?

should be same lens design as Planar with different name because the license for using the "Planar" name has expired
Exactly what I'd heard. It's the same lens with a new name. They've been on ebay for months at least. Brugetcamera on ebay is a very reputable outfit. I've sold to him, bought from him and made some trades with him. Always very pleasant to deal with, great communication, quick shipping. I got an FW from him as well, and my XPAN 30mm.

I had a focus problem with my FW. I returned it to him and had an exchange in less than 2 weeks. Excellent dealer.

Agreed. I returned something to him with zero problems, and he has always been very quick in coming up with a fair trade value once items arrive.

The Ebay ad says it's made by Schneider-Kreuznach. So it's an upgraded Xenotar?

Not what I'd read. I read that the contract on using the Planar name had expired and they were calling it an Apogon or whatever. They'd always made the lens, it was just the design that was held by Zeiss. My FX has a Planar which says "Made by Franke Heideke (sp?)" on it. The pictures in the ebay ad show a camera with a lens made by DHW-Fototechnik, which is the 'new' Rollei...
This may be a newer version. If so I stand corrected.

The best camera is one that still works!
As for price ... if I was going to spend five grand on a new film camera the Rolleiflex would have it all over an M7 or MP. The M7/MP choice would probably be more practical but the Rolleiflex is almost too beautiful for the average eyes and medium format kick's 135's butt!
I'd find it hard to spend five Gs on any camera but I think I could happily own an earlier f2.8 ... even though they aren't exactly cheap!

Yep. That is hands down the most beautiful camera I've ever seen. I could work only with that Rolleiflex for the rest of my life...

I have just read another post about this auction by Brugetcamera on ebay. The other post claims this is a fake White Face. They said the ser# of the White Face should not be on the top of the camera.

It confirms the comment. Anyone have any comment about this? I just want to be careful!!

I agree with Keith. For the money I've chosen Rolleiflex over a Leica MP, or M7. The FW (wide angle) model can be gotten NEW from reputable eBay dealers for just over $4K. That's why I also chose it over the Bessa III wide as well.

Also ****ing gorgeous.
I'm now trying to work out what I would have to sell to pony up for the price of a GX or similar!
I understand your choice here ... the Bessa looks like a black brick by comparison.

It looks like the new Rolleiflex uses Bayonet IV. Maybe it's needed for the closer focus capability, or perhaps the lens has a new design.

100% agree, if made to spend $5k on a camera, this is the one it would be. Makes me hopeful for the world to see such beautiful items still being made.
Not only that, but the results possible from it will blow away just about any other $5k camera, so it's cheap if you think about...
