Autofocus lock in OVFmode

Hello!
I just bought this little marvel and I am still in the learning mode to switch from dslr ways of doing things.
I noticed one phenomenon: whsn i ficus and recompose in EVF mode it is fine, keeps focus locked while half pressed shutter release. I OVF mode it seems to focus at the time of full press, so one needs to lock focus with AE-L/AE-F button before recompose.
Am i doing something wrong or fuji engineers enjoyed sake too much during design process?

I just checked this situation on my XP1. It seems to work fine holding focus lock with half-press in OVF and EVF. Not sure what's going on with yours. Hmmm.... ?

Well, I have to revisit all the menus. There is possibility that I turned something off or on 🙂
Lots of play time ahead of me that's for sure 🙂

Hmm. Doubt this is the issue, but do you have it in manual focus mode on the front?

Nope. Single shot focus mode.
POint goes green when half pressed, stays green but the subject covered by the focus point at the time of full press gets the focus.
And I am not talking subjects close to each other, I tried to move half frame from the subject I intended to get in the focus

If you don't mind losing your other settings, and you cant figure out how to resolve the issue via the menus, i'd suggest resetting the camera.

Yeah, this is the next thing to do, although i would love to know what causes it to avoid the hassle in future 🙂

I wonder if it is the parallex related issue..

Both the x100 and xp1 has a menu setting called corrected af frame. This is used in ovf mode. It brings up a second af marker for close focusing and the green box floats between those two boxes depending on how close u are. In ovf mode u need to know the parrallex difference in focus point. The default setting for these cameras is off.

agree with gary's suggestion, but there is another way to avoid this issue. set the camera to 'manual focus ' mode. to autofocus just single press the AFL button (no need to keep it pressed). focus will remain locked and depressing the shutter half or full will only effect metering. i prefer to shoot this way as i like focus and metering handled separately.

Glad u figured it out but.......

If u are too close u should go to evf.. Once u get to about arms length, t is always better to use evf.... If u are using the ovf and u are shooting farther than arms length (>3 ft), then it is better to use the corrected frame lines, otherwise parallex related focusing issues creep in..
