Even if you are selling a relatively expensive item in the Misc category they will not appear in the home page classified ads. I just popped up a Coolscan 5000 scanner and it does not show up on the home page.
This lack of visibility is a pretty big deal and frankly this is something that should be corrected or the price for Misc ads dropped. Once an item leaves the front page they get far fewer hits and, in this case, the item will not have an opportunity to have that exposure.

This was already the case several months ago when I had a larger sale of Misc. goods. I thought it was a 'feature'

A feature, LOL! I actually get why they may have programmed it this way, wanting to keep $5 filters or doo-dads (nice term) from cluttering up the limited front page space. A few more lines of code could probably have avoided this issue.

Hmmm.. one does pay the same $5 to list an ad if it's in "Miscellaneous" do they not?

The scanner was lead item on teh classifieds page last time I was on it, about an hour ago.
Nikon Coolscan 5000 ED for which the brother wanted about $2,200 as I recollect.

That's correct. The home page feature area is what I'm referring to, not the Classifieds landing page.

For what it's worth, I rarely go to the home page. I usually start with recent posts, and then have a look at the classifieds -- though why I go there so often, I don't know, since I'm "done."

I don't think our bartender and head cook has yet sold his $65,000 Reflex Nikon S-mount 1000mm f/6.3 lens (half the size of a mini Cooper and twice the price), so until then boys, he's got only us to rely on! $7 is a small price to pay.

For the record I don't mind the $7 price in general. This was more about a category of items that do not get the same visibility as other products. Compared to the 'Bay we are still getting a nice deal selling to a nice targeted group of people.
