On a whim I walked into the new Tamarkin store in Chicago - Dan had given me his card a few weeks ago while I was taking shots at a teachers union rally. What an awesome store - I know the Tamarkin name has been around for a while but I was just so impressed with their business. The store itself is pretty small but it has a TON of Leica gear laying around. And Dan was extremely friendly and knowledgeable, in fact I probably spent too much of his time playing around with gear and shooting the breeze. I poked around in his junk box and finally ended up walking out with a (very slightly damaged) 90mm Summicron for what I felt was an extremely fair price. All in all, it was a great experience and I'd HIGHLY recommend anyone in the Chicago area to check it out.

Nice to hear, I've been a customer of Dan's for 2 years but always on the phone, I've not met him. He is great, in fact I have a Monochrome on order with him. Good to hear you were impressed with the store and him.

I've bought a number of things from Tamarkin while they were located back East. I was in Chicago a couple days ago and went to their new location and can only echo what was said above. A wonderful Leica experience if you're in Chicago, and a great place to buy from if you need anything (the used selection is quite decent)

It's nice to have a great camera store in Chicago...Central Camera's prices on used Leica gear is simply outrageous. Dan's prices are very fair and actually aligned with reality.

Bought my m6 titanium from Tamarkin NY in about 2006. Spent a couple of hours with me whilst I made my decision. Great store (don't know if it's still there).

I've always enjoyed working with Dan. One occassion particularly impressed me. I was searching for a LTM accessory and Tamarkin did not have it in stock at the time. Dan went out of his way to find the item from another seller, and he even coached me on how the item should be priced by grade. It wasn't an especially expensive accessory but Dan went out of his way to help me. Of course I have a purchasing relationship with Dan, nevertheless, many sellers would not have gone this far to be helpful.

Maybe the next Chicago RFF get together (and yes I am ready for the next one) should be in that area and we could all go and visit
