Hi all,
we will probably see in some months kind of first new film format since the introduction of APS in 1996:

As this topic refers to slide film and projection, to also toy camera / instagram and cell phone photography I've posted it here in the Photography General Interest section.

Looks cool, but I think a lot of its popularity will depend on the price of getting the slides made and how low it can be done for, since it doesn't make sense to buy one and then get two wheels and be done...

Anyone here young enough to remember the Viewmaster?

BTW, it's not a new film format. The slides are on 35mm film cut to fit the wheel. You have a few images that combined don't cover the area of a 35mm frame. Even the View-Master mentioned above used larger images... and they were stereoscopic.

The only one I can remember, vaguely, was a Walt Disney disc.

This is a bad idea in so many ways!
Let's make a product that depends on 35mm slide film. Yeah, that sounds like a plan. And then, you can share two foot wide projected images of your Instagram food photos in your totally dark bedroom with both of your friends. This will let the current generation understand why everyone sighed and moaned when dad brought out the slide projector all those years ago.
Pretty funny.

Excellent description of what they are doing, although it does include this ringer:
"Your Instagrams are 'melted' on to a single frame of Kodak film, which is then processed in a similar way to how analogue films are developed, except in full colour."
I am glad they have also figured out how to put colors on analogue film.
If I had anything to do with instagrams I might be interested to play with it. I wonder if you can send your owned scanned images for processing? Did not see any mention of that in their project specs.

There are already handheld, low cost digital LED projectors. What's the point?

Hey, it's better than that. You pull this thing out of your pocket, your old man doesn't need to set it up. Anything that takes people out of the virtual world, even for a moment, is a good thing (although it does hinge on - ahem - instagrams). And what's wrong with something that relies on slide film?
Reminds me of a keychain I had years ago. It was a tiny movie viewer, and had interchangeable film cartridges, each had about 20 sec of a vintage cartoon. It was a little made-in-China marvel. Sadly it stopped working one day (what a surprise!)

Well, since their "perk" for donating is the product itself, they will guarantee a market of some kind, although I think doing that violates Kickstarter rules.

If you can only do it through instastuff then I'm not really excited. Now if they would make a camera for it

Terminally silly, but fun anyway.

I have the whole shebang, Camera, cutter, spare reels, viewers, mono-projector. All I am missing is the stereo projector.
Perhaps if I could encourage people to take two instagrams side by side, I could sell them to them printed onto viewmaster reels. woohoo!

But why do we call it analogue film, there's no other sort?
As I see it there's digital photography and film photography and digital watches and mechanical ones, etc.
