Agfa ADX 100 + 400 in the stores.

Hello everyone,
Maybe this is outdated news, but I see that Agfa ADX 100 and 400 are back in the shelves of the stores in fresh batches.

Of course, I have heard all the rumours about the licensing, the machines, changes and doubts about the quality and similarity to the old ADX.

Nonetheless, is is on the agfaphoto.com website and the info sheets they have for download are the same as those of years ago, insinuating a similar quality level. The package also states in small letters that it was made for the lupus media people, who were busy with this already for a while.


But the question remains, how is the film today? The batch number is UD7050 wit expiry 12-2014.

I just bought 2 rolls and cannot shoot them until next month, but I am curious who here has already used a new batch recently and what their experiences were?

Another other news out there about it?

ADX not APX? I used to use a lot of APX stuff and I really liked this film.

it seems to be a fresh batch….
I just wonder if the emulsion and the rest are really the same..

APX100 is available from http://www.macodirect.de/agfaphoto-c-1_6_705.html and has been for some time. I just laid in a couple hundred rolls over the past couple of months -- even with the international shipping, it is still a good deal.

All APX 100 which is currently offered is frozen stock from the last production run in the Agfa plant in Leverkusen, Germany, in 2005.
There has been no new production since then.
APX 400 is sold out for quite some time now.

This is were the confusion starts; please correct me if I am wrong, but check out the net and you will see it is there and seems to be fresh. I cannot quite believe that a run of film from 2005 is now suddenly in fresh packaging, unfrozen in the stores and available in several places? Unless they froze the film in rolls, and then defrosted it, perforated it and put it in modern 35mm packaging just 2-3 years back?

The APX 100 I have here is in modern packaging with a use by date of 12/2014 just bought last week. The package and film canister is also new and has the new (company website) name on it in small letters.

Rights have been sold/taken over/sold/revived etc. but APX 100 seems still there. I was lucky to find it in Copenhagen and will try it out next week….

So I guess I might be able to answer my own my original question then 🙂

Sorry, but you are wrong. This film is still from the last production run 2005 in Agfa's Leverkusen factory.
At that time (because the insolvency came very surprising and unexpected for them) all the raw material stock in the factory has been used and converted to film.
Because making film from it was much cheaper than giving it to the landfill.
Therefore huge amounts of film has been made. And therefore still film stock is there.
Same with Agfa Scala 200X, which is still available, also from the last production run in 2005. Due to a statement from Mirko Boeddecker of Adox, stock will last at least for the next five years.

This topic has been extensively discussed over the last years. And those people from the industry, who know the exact details like Maco and Adox/Fotoimpex have always explained it.
What I have written is the official information from the dozens of statements Adox and Maco have given about that.
They know the details, because Maco has bought stock from the 2005 production run and sold it as Rollei Retro 100 and 400.
And Mirko Boedecker is the one who is working (long term project) on new production of these two films. In Cooperation with InovisCoat.

AgfaPhoto is only a brand name now, owned by the AgfaPhoto Holding. AgfaPhoto Holding is a company which is living only by income from name licensing. They don't have any production plants!
They have licensed the brand name to Lupus Imaging. Lupus Imaging is the company which is selling films under the AgfaPhoto name. Lupus Imaging is only a distribution company, they don't have own production.
They are selling APX 100 and Scala 200X, which is frozen stock from the last production run in 2005 at Agfa Leverkusen.
And their color films are now made by Fuji.

Not only 2-3 years back, they still are actively doing so, and will continue for some more years.

Nope, APX400 is gone from their list, and the last has vanished from German drug stores some three years ago.

Do you (or anyone else) know what type of Fuji the Agfa-branded colour film is most similar to?

I suppose what you are saying about this is true, but I still have my doubts ;-) The cutting up of company rights and patents is never a 1,2,3 condition.

Agfa Leverkusen may be dead, however Agfa Gevaert in Belgium still exists, and produces films for the medial industry and 3rd parties, although they do not (have to) sell it directly themselves…

I am really not so sure that all a company's inside wheelings and dealings would be simple to follow, especially when it concerns a lot of royalty/brand names/expertise being shunted around….

Anyway as long as APX 100 is there, all the better.

However, IF there will really be no more production of APX film and this is really the' Schwanengesang', we are all better off supporting those who are doing new films….Buying old film that will never be produced again will not really help film stay alive longer...
