Launched as part of the TD James Moody Democracy of Jazz Festival in October, the current exhibit on display at WBGO, Too Heavy for Words, will be on view through the end of 2012. The show features the work of four New Jersey based photographers highlighting jazz artists from both New York and New Jersey.
Tony Graves, curator for Too Heavy for Words, is a freelance photographer affiliated with The New Jersey Jazz Society Magazine, Jazz Vespers at Bethany Baptist Church and WBGO. Born and raised in Detroit, Michigan, he attended Cass Techincal High School and The Center for Creative Studies also in Detroit where he received a B.A in Applied Photography. He recently finished his tenure as Artist in Residence at Essex County Community College. Tony has also curated and shown in various exhibits in New Jersey and New York.

Bill May, who has performed regularly as a double bassist throughout New Jersey and New York, performing orchestral music, operas and shows.
Risasi, a freelance photojournalists since the early 1970s, who has been assigned to photograph many important national jazz events and concert, including the JVC Jazz Festival, the Charlie Parker Festival and the Mandela Music Festival.
George Wirt, a New Jersey based photographer who has spent a lifetime capturing images from around the world. He has documented famines and civil wars in Africa, natural disasters in Asia, historic sites in Europe, and news and sports events in North America.

I was in Newark Saturday night also for Jazz purpose but I didn't know about the exhibition.
I have seen Keith Jarrett Trio (w. Jack DeJohnette,drums and Garry Peacock dbl.bass) at the NJPAC. Unfortunately strict and multiple times anounced NO Photo policy at any time during the concert. It would have been great but you got to respect the artist's wish.
Anyway, the concert was breathtakingly awesome. The guys obviously enjoyed it as much as the audience and they came out for encores 3 (three !) times. Hopefully there will be recording of this event. The "Newark concert".

I see Stanley Jordan there on the bottom front. As a kid, I remember being in midtown Manhattan on a cold December evening and seeing Stanley playing on the street, before he got his Blue Note deal. It was mindblowing.
