Again if it's in the NY Times....it's forgettable... I would love to see the sales number for these best sellers.

None ring a bell for me although Rineke Dijkstra's style of portraiture was discussed elsewhere, can't remember where.

Only one I've seen is Tim Walker Storyteller but that's because I'm a book retailer and it's on the distributor catalog.

Hmm, I just finished reading Robert Burley's Disappearance of Darkness: Photography at the end of the analog era. Available here: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/1616890959/ref=oh_details_o04_s00_i00
Not much there of interest to digital camera folk but to an old filmy like me, I loved it. A couple of great essays in there as well. Be warned though: reading the book is like attending a wake.

It's the New York Times Magazine, not the NYT per se. They are editorially and photographically separate from the newspaper but the Magazine is distributed with the Sunday edition of the paper. The Magazine has it's own photography department and devotes a fair amount of effort to their yearly list. I'm not familiar with any of these titles either but will certainly look them up.

I've seen the Rineke Dijkstra book mentioned, but that's the only one. Like many around here I'm familiar with Soth and Avedon, but hadn't seen those titles. I usually get book ideas from Mike Johnston's selections over on TOP..

Looking at the descriptions on the book list, I get the impression that "disturbing" photos seems to be the ticket to make it into the list.

Or into the art world in general...
