Great story. Glad you stuck with a plan.
I too thought a Leica was out of the question. But then a neighbor in our building was shooting with a couple of Leica's and in conversation it came up that he wanted to sell two of his CV lenses, a 21 f4 LTM and 35 f2.5PII, and for a very good price too. So I kinda backed into the system. I now had two lenses but no body. I decided to wait the six weeks to a annual photo show and look there. Found a M4-2 in reasonable shape and sold a bunch of gear accumulated over 30 years and just sitting in boxes. That gave me enough for the body and a few months later added a 90 f4 Elmar. Now all I'm going to add is a 50mm lens, probably FSU because that is what I can afford.
However you do it, the Leica is a neat little camera.

Great story and I'm glad you made it. I gave up some nice stuff that I wasn't using in order to get an M and 35mm. I had settled on an M4-2 and ZM35/2.8 but got lucky and had a minty M6TTL fall into my lap at a similar price. I hope you get years of enjoyment out of the setup; I am already thrilled with my first couple rolls from mine.

Wow...
I bet it was hard to decide to sell your Stereo gear at 1st thought...
To fetch a good amount, must mean you had top gear.
The M4 is a Cult Classic, as the M5 is slowly becoming.
a lot of "1st" with the M4. A not to radical change from the M2/3 in design.
Enjoy it for a long time.

Good for you. I hope to see your resulting images on RFF. Incidentally, I have an old Canadian M4. That camera is superb. Have fun!

What a friendly place this is! Thanks gang. I cannot wait to have the set up complete these two more weeks will drag. I'm not expecting miracles straight away, its just now I have no excuse as the caperbility of the lens and M4 is fantastic. Now I need to match it!
Im hoping we will become old friends, Ive just bought a weston master 2 to help with exposures but im not 100% sure how to use it yet! If anyone knows of any decent articles/links on how to correctly use them feel free to fire them my way!
