damn, i selected vienna for my second choice when i meant to select amsterdam. must have been an subconscious reaction to simon's comment 😀
 
This year I'll try to make it! I'd love to visit all of them but Bucharest is my first choice. I spent a month there last year but didn't have much time for photography. It attracts considerably fewer tourists than the others (except Kiev), making it more of an adventure, and while the city isn't pretty, it's certainly interesting: beautiful 19th century buildings next to grey communist brutalism, various expressions of Ceausescu's megalomania (such as the humongous parliament and Bulevardul Unirii leading up to it), stray dogs, smoking and drinking everywhere (indoors too), horrible traffic, not much crime, beautiful people, beautiful language (a relative of Italian and the other Romance languages -- and it's not Cyrillic alphabet land as was mentioned elsewhere)... ah, and a film supplier... what more could one need 😀
 
Astonishingly, we seem to have 41 respondents in the poll.

Rather less surprising is that there is a close finish. As I post this reply, both Vienna and Prague have eleven first-choice votes and Amsterdam has ten. Going to second-choice votes (and discounting the voting accident mentioned by jonmanjiro, in post-#21, above) these top three cities have five, eight and eight votes respectively. That suggests that Prague would least displease us all, at the moment.

Further discussion, disagreement or joy can be mentioned in posts here in the next few days - then perhaps we can make it firm during the week and all book some tickets?

The "Which weekend?" poll has rather fewer voters in it, so you might all want to go there too, just for completeness (link).

Following a firm decision, comes the question of accommodation - but we can't look at that until 'where' and 'when' are sorted, of course.
 
Let's close the poll soon, when tickets are still affordable... For me Vienna would be perfect at any time, but Prague or Amsterdam is only doable if I can still get cheap tickets. Maybe I am not he only one who is on a tight budget... On the other hand some of us may have to scedule their holidays for the year 2013. Three months in advance (the preference for May seems obvious) ist not that long time either.
 
I don't espect there are any more people to vote - the closing date was set at a month only because that seemed plenty long enough. Waiting that long before making a decision would be foolish!

So far only about half of the people who voted for a location have made any vote in the weekend poll, and most of those who did have indicated that they can only go on one specific weekend apparently. Anyone else voting, please read the first post in that thread first! The general plan was to show ALL the weekends in that period which would be do-able for you.
 
The poll has 48 voters and has had no input for a day or so. I suggest that means we have finished with the location voting.

We have Vienna leading the First-choice selections with 13 votes against Prague and Amsterdam with 12 each. However, when we count the Second-choice votes (in order to more-or-less please the highest number of voters) we get the following:-

Prague 12+10=22
Amsterdam 12+09=21
Vienna 13+06=19


It looks as though Prague will be the overall 'best' result.

Does anyone have a big problem with this, or some information that we really need to know, before confirming the decision within these top three contenders?

This is sort of a last-chance for input because time is ticking and we really need to make a decision as soon as we can, so don't be shy . . .
 
Last year I visited Amsterdam.

Two years ago I visited both Prague and Vienna (also Budapest).

This year I have an already planned trip to Greece (April) and Spain (June). Even though I really wanted to participate this year's meeting; I will not push my self for the places that I have already been to.

I voted Bucharest and Lisbon because I've never been there before and I would find a way to participate if one of them would be chosen; but in this case I wish all of you an extraordinary meeting. Because all of those cities are awsome.

Since there's only one more vote for Prague, and with the same numbers of 1-st places, Amsterdan might have preference since it's a bit more "central" in Europe then Prague; I guess more people would be able to go by car, sharing traveling expense etc ... but that's just my guess, and is probably influenced by me being in Western Europe. Do we have many members from Eastern Europe (because for them, Prague is more central, of course).

(I do realize this doesn't make things easier for the one that will decide 😎)

I'd think going anywhere by car would be quite expensive, unless it had five people in it. Return train ticket to Prague (54Eur) from my part of NL is almost the same as to go to Amsterdam (35Eur) ! Look at night-train prices 😉

From places outside of the train network, Amsterdam might well be a more convenient destination though. Are there many who will find Prague difficult to get to? (And Amsterdam easier, of course).

It'd be interesting to double-check respondents' profiles to check if they're indeed the type that'd have a direct interest in going.

Prague in May...nice. Looks like mid-May has the lead, which (so far) is poifect for me.

By train? Just looked up some connections. From Cologne it's 15hours with 5 stops. Even if someone paid me, I wouldn't do that. It's the plane for me.

I voted for Prague/Amsterdam and would like to visit my first choice, but also would go to the 2nd choice.
