Epson Scan settings for color negatives.
Configuration>
Preview:
Thumbnail Cropping Area = Large
I have nothing else checked, 3x3 Sampling Area
Color:
Color Control = Checked
Continuous Auto Exposure = Checked
Display Gamma = 2.2
Auto Exposure Level = Low
Main Controls>
Professional mode
48 bit
Unsharp Mask = Checked, Low
Digital Ice Technology = Checked, Speed priority
(I find it easiest to select 'all' in the Thumbnails palette, and then make the sharpening and ICE changes, so they all change at once.)
Thumbnail = Checked
Check mark the frames you want and scan, with no cropping in Epson Scan.

Allright, more fooling around - flat scans.

Thanks for taking the time to do this. As a brand new V600 owner this is exactly what I was looking for.

I thought I should bump this with the simple, effective version I use now.

I haven't tried this yet but anything to help with color. I've reset all my parameters to your specs and with see what happens. Thank you!

Good luck! It works well for me, there are casts from the color rendition of the lens used or bad film/processing but in general it makes clean scans with long tonal range. I find it impossible to get these casts out in the scanner software, much easier on a converted file...

Thanks for posting those, Ranchu, just emailed me the link so I don't lose it.
I'm still struggling with colour neg scans - B&W no trouble at all, Kodachrome fine - as I get insane blue casts, so hopefully...

You're welcome! This should end the blue casts. If I remember right, you'll get serious blue casts without 'continuous auto exposure' checked.
I also meant to say above, you can change the gamma to 1.00 from whatever it automatically chooses, in the epson scan input levels dialog and you may like the picture better. It's a flat scan then. Mostly the auto works, but for primarily dark (for example) pictures, it can screw up. After I get the scan out of epson scan I often have to do a little adjusting the midtones, in curves move the blue curve from 128 to 132 for a file thats a little too yellow, for example. You can also use the grey (levels) eyedropper in the full size view in epson scan to neutralize the midtones.
Cheers!
