Nikon D2X

I exchanged mine for a D300, on the grounds that the latter being smaller. The D300 may have better high ISO capabilities, but in all other respects the D2X (especially with the latter firmware) was a superior camera. I especially liked the metering. I only ever needed to use exposure compensation when you would expect to, whereas the D300 was all over the place. Ended up using spot or centre weighted metering and recomposing all the time. The D2X seemed to get it right most of the time even in matrix mode.

The quality of the files could not be faulted up to ISO 400, at times 640. Above 800 however and noise could be intrusive.

I did try a D300 once, I had it for a short time and I really didn't
like the colors, to much post color adjustments, the D200 is better
for me in this regard. I just shoot and a little sharpness and Exposure
comp and it's all good.

another vote for D3/700/300 for digital Nikon. previous generation was behind the tech curve to comparable Canon models.
 
Are you going to make it to the meet on Sunday?
I'll have my D2x and lenses along with my 1950's 4x5 rig and possibly a few rangefinders.

Not only do I shoot a D2x, I just bought a D2Hs! Gasp! Only 4MP! But those files are just lovely and the IR sensitivity of the sensor opens up another dimension in photography for me.

If you miss a manual focus aid, get a Katzeye Optics britescreen with split prism/micro prism ring for your D2x and stick a DK-17M eyepiece on it. I have that setup on my D2h and the viewfinder is the best of any dslr I've ever looked through (D3 and 1DS MkII included.) It's just about as good as my old F4 with a J screen. (I have no affiliation with Katzeye Optics, by the way.) Using a manual focus lens on the camera is now downright pleasant, the way I want to work.

Is the D2X a good camera to use? Of course! Many thousands of professional photos were made and are still being made today.

If someone thinks the fantastic photos shot with it (and I made a few myself) are any less today then they are fooling themselves. Obsolete photos from an obsolete camera? I don't think so.

For the price, a D2X and a D2H are highly capable and robust cameras. If you don't mind a huge body, go for it.

I don't do sports or motorsports anymore so I don't need one... Gearheads will steer you to the latest and greatest every time. 😛 It's called GAS....But..If you are a capable photographer, you will get great results with a D2x.

I would love another D2 body but we have other priorities at the moment.

Nice! I have the 20mm f2.8AIS I got at a flea market for $40.00 🙂eek🙂
that I use. Phil The D2X is really nice, so far the pictures are great, But!
I have a slight back focus problem at times, I'm trying to get prices on
fixing it but it's hard to pin down a price.
