P&S camera porn

Referring to the Leica mini "family tree", there's even more than you think

to my knowledge there's at least 6 versions

Leica Mini
Minolta Riva mini/Freedom Escort (depending on territory)
Panasonic Super Mini

these are the widely known ones, but there's also the Olympus Trip AF Mini

I own the Minolta, Panasonic and Olympus versions, and with the exception of the front grip and position of the LCD they're exactly the same cameras and most of them are available for a couple of quid

Check out this baby: the ultimate in low-budget P&S (or piece of s&*t 🙂 ) cameras! The best part: the 'flash' mounted on top is totally decorative. It is completely plastic and non-functional.

I ran a roll through this camera, and surprisingly it worked. To a point. It's fixed-focus, fixed shutter, and 100% plastic, including the lens. Even from a 'Lomo' perspective (and I like fooling around with low-budget cameras) ... this one was a bit of a stretch.

Sorry, no.

I was going to mention the Olympus Trip AF MINI as being very similar but was beaten to it (again). OTOH, the Olympus has a Zuiko lens, according to the Olympus website. I don't know the website as this was in my notes, kept in an old fashioned ring binder.

BTW, the Leica has a 35mm lens as has the Panasonic but the Minolta version is 34mm. I often wonder if they are all the same lens but designed to come in two version by altering a spacer or similar tweak.

Leica's instructions give a proper specification for the camera but Minolta are rather shy about it and I've yet to trace the Panasonic one. So I can only guess about these things. It's like comparing the lenses for the Leica R range with the Minolta XD ones... Or Samsung with Rollei.

Now the question is, are there two versions of it. Pentax have done this before with letters on the end of the model number.

Hi,

They are nice cameras; I bought one new years ago and my wife borrowed it. I'm still waiting for it to be returned and she is still churning out some brilliant pictures with it but hasn't mastered the battery charging, yet. And they are dirt cheap on ebay and so on...
