Well, well, well.

DPReview Announcement:

Adobe had better bust a move since Phase One has now stepped up the game a bit by releasing the "less spendy" Express version of Capture One Pro.

The Express version also supports the X-Trans sensor and is $99.

If Adobe doesn't make a move soon I can see myself moving over to Capture One Express for that price. . .

Cheers,
Dave

Looking at the comparison with the full blown version of CO7.
The only glaring missing items for the express version is "Image output". ("Output images to multiple formats and resolutions").
Also "Spot Removal" (Erase unwanted dust, spots, and marks with a single click").
These seem like a very basic and fundamental functions for any piece of Photo software.

Here is the chart comparing the two versions.

Andy,

Regarding spot removal and output to multiple formats/resolutions; for the price difference ($200 USD), unless Express cannot output to jpeg after the conversion then I, personally, would not be too concerned. I can still import Jpegs into Photoshop CS3 or LR and do my spot removal there.

I can, however, see, if someone has no image editing software what so ever that they may want to consider the full blown version of Capture One vs the Express version.

Cheers,
Dave

Sounds great with CS 4

Sounds great with CS 4

I am still using Photoshop CS4 and all I really need is a program to open X Pro 1 raws and take advantage of detail in shadows and highlights. Using raw should be as good as I get with my M8 I would guess. JPEGs look great, but I too really want to see what the X Trans can really do.
