Mamiya 7 lens options (loud thinking)

I went to Asia over Christmas and New Year and took a Mamiya 7 II with 150, 80, 65 and 43 lenses.

I ended up using the 43 nearly all the time - it is a beautiful lens, so sharp and clear with an amazing view of the world. If you want to crop later you can - but you can't expand later with a 65. I was actually thinking of dumping the 65 and keeping the remaining 3.

Up to you, depends on what you like to shoot, but for me the 43 is a keeper.

I sold both my 50 and 150, the 65mm is my go to lens.
I haven't been shooting a lot of mf lately but the M7 is a asset to any kit.

if you search flickr for my name, you could see a couple of the shots I took there - it's a slow process scanning a uploading, so only a few from Asia.

In fact, only a few anyway as I've only just joined flickr. I have just come back to photography after a rest of a few years.

43mm lenses are found quite regularly on eeeeBay .. btw. 1400 for a used lens + VF combo is expensive or is that a new item?

No. Second hand. Of course this is way too much. But dealers usually have astronomical prices. It was just for comparison to the ebay-prices. But keep in mind, that they have to give one year warranty. In your case Mamiya in Munich would be your contact.

Perhaps a second estimation: If your 43mm is OK and there is no reason for selling it (besides money), keep it and look for the 50mm as third lens. As I said before, using a lens even 10% or less doesen't mean you can live without it.
The Mamiya 7 II is by now 14 years old - and the idea to get such a lens second hand makes me worry. One problem with the focus/RF coupler could be expensive to fix. An unseen scratch in the rear element would make me mad. If possible I would get the 50mm first, check it in detail and make sure that it is perfect and than decide wether the 43mm is for sale or stays as third lens.

Photo gear is, in the end, a means to an end. If you really need the cash then sell the 43mm for now. I think if your preferred focal length is 65mm, then the 50mm will be too wide (and you'll need the external finder). You could later buy the 43mm or the 50mm when you have the cash.

That said, I love the 43mm, would never sell it. I also get plenty of regular use out of the 80mm and the 150mm.

It's just the weather. At the moment, when one looks out the door, over the most of the country nothing suggests that it's time to go out and take a wide-angle picture. Of WHAT? Just put it in the drawer and wait till May.

I sold it for a reasonable price (a bit less than what I've paid) .. until today: no regrets (yay).
