where do the rules come from?

not photo rules...head rules...supposed to be rules...

i've been looking over my growing camera bag collection and getting very frustrated with them and even more so, with myself!
i have it in my head that i 'should' be content with one or 2 bags...3 at most!

that i am supposed to be happy with a few bags and not want more and more of them!

there are some of you out there that have 1 bag and you are happy and having that one bag fits within the confines of your rules...

so you and i...we, have rules about how things are...where do these rules come from and how can i change some of mine?

I have 8, and there's another couple I'd get if I could afford them. Nothing wrong with it, each gets used for different types of jobs, depending on what I'm doing and what I need to carry.

Why would having or not having rules make any difference?
OK.... so the rule is only 3 bags at a time (for example).
What difference would it be if it was 10 bags at a time. Still gotta try them all because.. none are perfect 😉

I don'y see any reason to continue to "aire your guilt" or give your "reasoning" here (if even that is what is going on).

My personal max is 50. Anything more then that and it becomes problematic. I'm at 34 presently, down from 41.

i think i have a rule that things should be simple...and multiple bags...cameras...watches etc. is not simple.

Must be different sides of your personality and a good thing too, we would all be pretty one-dimensional otherwise.

I don't use camera bags, but I can relate. I truly would prefer only 1-2 cameras and at most 2-3 lenses. However, I have multiples of both things and the other side of me constantly justify why each and every item has its and place and can neither be eliminated nor substituted.

I have only a very simple rule:

"Whatever I buy must be bought with cash, and it has to fit in the apartment without getting in the way."

I've owned and used quite a lot of camera stuff over the years, and enjoyed all of it. When I feel like there's too much, I sell some of it and keep the stuff I'm using more of the time.

I'm at a midline water mark right now on bags. I have 10 bags, all in use, all nicely differing sizes so they fit different gear and situation needs. Some are currently being used as storage receptacles, others as use bags.

My latest bag purchase was the supremely adaptable Lowepro Passport Sling. Big enough for the Hasselblad, small enough to carry just the day's compact and my usual carryabout junk, and very flexible as I can open up the big end and stuff a jacket or sweater in there, or stuff I've bought while out and about, and it wears very comfortably even with a considerable load. Not bad for $40 or so. (It's identical to the Passport Sling II at nearly twice the price, but without the colored trim.)

I have no camera bags at all, I carry the camera in my hands put some film in my pocket and off I go.
I think I had 5 at one time but they got in the way so I sold them all.
