The Kiev 60 is a charming and ridiculous (and occasionally frustrating camera). I haven't had mine for very long, but the ability to use relatively inexpensive CZJ lenses is an obvious plus. Here are some color test shots from a sunrise walk through the vineyard.

This last image shows part of the frustration of the camera...totally random, inexplicable internal reflections in the mirror box showing up (this is after installing an aftermarket flocking kit) as a weird bit of flare in the lower left corner.

Thank you, Erik. I couldn't agree more about how properly focused/exposed/developed film captures faces/skin in a manner that is much more pleasing than digital. Sure, for the kind of film/developer I use, I'll never see the kind of resolution that I could get from digital, but then again, the kind of photos that I take aren't really about capturing maximum resolution.

Yes, we are all searching for a certain look on film or on a gelatin-silver print that is satisfactory on a digital medium like the internet. Not as easy as it seems.

Erik.

I shoot HP5+ at box speed but thought I'd try a roll pushed to 1600 with DD-X.

Chicago winters are so sunless that the extra speed would be nice. I'll scan a few more before deciding if it's something I'll do more often.

The Russian optics are sublime but I'm surprised you didn't get overlapping frames as this is the common problem.

I’ve only put 4 or 5 rolls through it. Haven’t had any overlapping frames…yet. I cheat a little by wrapping 10cm of masking tape around the take-up spool to trick the camera into thinking the film is thicker than it is. Seems to work so far. Annoying, but effective.

Hope it keeps going well for you. It seems you are doing fine with it

Soviet tank on display at a war memorial in Berlin. Those tanks liberated us from fascism, now their successors are used to invade a free and sovereign nation out of what I perceive to be fascist motifs. This is a very sad day for the free world.
