Regarding the longevity of Kodachrome, I remember the information passed out at a photo course 40 years ago by the Smithsonian's photo department. (They had just finished a project to document the collection of 50,000 pocket watches.) The instructor said Kadachrome had a very long life in dark storage, but would fade over time with frequent or long projection times in a slide projector. On the other hand, Ektachrome had a shorter life in dark storage, but experienced less fading during projection. That matches my own experience with slides of both types taken in the 1960's.
