Some of you might have seen my post about the charity shop find Nikkor AiS 105f/2.5 in sad cosmetic condition. After a bit of TLC I made it look a bit more presentable and took it out for a test drive.

The weather conditions were not great - very overcast and we also went to a nearby forest so light was not good. Most shots taken wide open.

I am impressed. What a great lens! So sharp even wide open.

I got quite a few blurry ones, for anything below 1/125 the risk of camera shake is real (at least for my hands). I should have taken the F4 instead of the F801s.

Do you have any pictures taken with the 105f/2.5 to share? Any version of it.

Hey Pan,

Nice work. Yeah, it's a great lens, loved for portraits. Don't have any samples handy, but if I come across some I'll post. Have fun with your "restored" copy.

Best,
-Tim

A lens best used wide open.......no?

I'm certain to have images from this lens but I wouldn't be certain which ones.....slides are not organized by lens....
I keep forgetting to see if mine is a sonnar or??

If the lens barrel is chrome, it is the sonnar.

I bought a copy of this lens from eBay about a year ago, just to see what the fuss is about. I have it attached to a Nikon Df and am impressed with the portraits with this combo. Will try to post a few.

The older Sonnar version did a pretty good job with colour also (Kodachrome II)

Undoubtedly a fantastic lens, but mine had to go when I switched from a noisy Nikon SLR to a quiet Leica RF a couple of decades ago. Also a heavy chunk of glass, not really something you'd carry about in your pocket.

This was Tri-X, probably in Tetenal Emofin.

You actually could have gotten the Nikon 10.5 cm f/2.5 RF lens in Leica screw mount, but it wouldn't have been any lighter and you would have needed a separate viewfinder since Leica M's don't have a 105 mm finder frame. I have them in both Contax and Nikon S mount and they are extraordinary lenses.
