New York Diane Arbus at the Park Avenue Armory

Marty,

I got the context.

It will be an interesting return to NYC.

Formally I was a Madhattanite, but for perhaps the past 3 1/2 years I have embraced “slow-living” and a more rural life. I am very fortunate that although I live in a small city on the Hudson River, that I live close to nature and wilderness. Pretty much an ideal location and the best of two worlds.

So shifting gears will be interesting. Hope I didn’t loose my NYC chops.

Retirement and slow living agrees with me. For a creative the most precious and valuable asset/commodity is time. Also rushing around often does not lead to my best work. I am much more thoughtful and a deeper thinker. I see a cognitive increase instead of a decline.

Anyways, I wish the same for you and others…

I phoned Helen to make sure she still had my number.

I’m kinda careful. Lots of scamming going on. Around 2007-2008 I somehow got A-Listed.

More recently I got sent E-mails from a Parole Officer in Colorado. Evidently I got mistaken for some guy who had a bad day at work and beat the crap out of his boss. Never been in Colorado.

At Grumman I had a Double. Max was Latino, and also worked at Hempstead Harley. I got mistaken for him a lot.

Then in the early 80’s there was a composite sketch on the front page of the Daily News of a guy who committed manslauter. The perp was a Latino with almond eyes with a skinny muscular build. He had an altercation with this guy who was the Captain on the football team in Mass-A-PEAK-qua at a club.

The Latino dude came back and used a baseball bat to give the Captain of the football team a bad beating. The guy was in a coma and subsequently died. His father had mob ties I was told by the owner of the Deli I frequented in Bethpage.

My friend Gary pointed to the front page and asked me if I did it. Gary knew the family, and told me to be very careful, and likely there would be a contract on me, so I could of been killed in a case of mistaken identity.

Later at work my boss called me over, showed me the composite sketch on the cover, and asked, “Did you do it?”

A few days later the word must of gotten out, and the perp tuned himself in.

So I deem I need to lay low. Pretty hard to just mind my own business.

Also I’m kind of a loner. Calzone is just a persona. Know I was a performance artist for about a decade in NYC. Call me a drama queen. LOL

John,

You are a guy who I admire. I miss you.

Had many a death march in NYC. We spent a lot of time together, but now we are thousands of miles apart.

One day I would love to show you one of my books. Pretty much your influence.

The good old days…

BTW I still have and own the complete “Camera Museum.” I did gift my Leica Digital SL to someone we know.

Today I went to visit AJ. I bought some of those business cards that are actually small 2x3 prints of my work to show him what I use to do.

At the Hudson River Museum with Snarky Joe, I realized my friend Joe’s exhibition was both landscape and people shots. Not very different than my urban landscapes and street photography. Same, but different.

Somehow I also got a gig at the Peekskill Herald. This is a local digital newspaper, and I kinda was a photo journalist given assignments. Our paper is award winning and gets grants.

Since I got Cancer that gig got put on hold. No worries, in about 2 years the treatments will end, and it seems I’ll be around many years to annoy people.

Geoff Berliner invited me to join him, the "next time you're in the city" LOL. He knows where all the good restaurants are. YUM YUM. Have much fun. Would love to go, one of my fave shooters.
