Can anyone here explain to me the fascination people seem to have with crappy cameras? I mean, a disposable camera takes far better photos than these Lomo, Holga things.

Is it just fashionable?

Fun!

Why wouldn't you just.. make a pinhole camera? That would be more fun than buying one of these toys wouldn't it? I feel like I'm from a different time with my dislike of unmemorable and unusable photos. Considering the insanely inflated cost of a Holga, I'd rather just scratch and fog up one of my cheap SLR lenses.

I like the second and third ones. An interesting juxtaposition of auto and pedestrian movement. Plus they have that cool crappy camera look that leaves a little to the imagination.

Some people can take very interesting and unique pictures with Holgas, Dianas and the like. It proves that you don't need a Leitz 35/2 Summicron ASPH to talk a good photo, and in fact, there can be qualities that a cheap plastic lens adds that make an image interesting.

That said, most images that I see out of these cameras are really lousy. But when someone with a good eye uses one, they can shine.

Actionsamplers are very fun, but you need some action in the photograph to get real actionsapmler images, and that is missing in the images showed in this topic, IMHO.

I like plastic cameras, especially ones with plastic lenses. Why? Because I like vignetting. I like it a lot. In fact, I like it in most circumstances when I'm not trying to take serious photos.

Cameras like this are for those of us who want to unwind and use something that we don't have to think about using...you just point it and shoot it. There's no focusing, aperture setting, shutter speed, etc...your job is just to compose the photo. It's the same concept as a pinhole, really. The only difference between cameras with plastic lenses and a pinhole camera is the fact that the exposure times are shorter.

I've shown good photos from my Lex35 before. Memorable, usable ones. Truly, you use what you feel like using to make the images you want to make. Nothing wrong with a plastic camera.
