I think it looks great sized as an avatar. It makes me think - "this person wants mail!" (it's not a mailbox, is it?)

I like it ,Joe. It has very nice, rich black tones and good grays. That spot right below the box gives the shot character. I also like he swirl of paint? on the left side. Great shot, I bet if I put this up for critique I wouldn't get ONE response.

not mine.
it is on a wall on a building in the touristy part of town that i photograph endlessly. it's a business mailbox.

as to the photo...

i like the 3 main areas of the building that are showing, like columns, the 3 different light levels falling on the walls and the 3 different textures of the walls. i like the depth and realistic look/feel of the mailbox.
i feel like i am there at the mailbox when i look at the photo.

thanks guys.

m2, it's not paint on the left part of the mailbox, it's a reflection of light, maybe from a nearby window.

I think you've good reason to like the image. I think it's well-exposed and compostionally balanced. I think the right side is a little too bright. Also, I'm a believer in the concept that every image has a "sweet size." As it's presented here, inline, in this thread, it feels too big. I look at your avatar and think this image would make a great 5x7. It's a very pleasing shot.

.

Not bad, I especially like where the light hits the wall below the mailbox - that place where the focus hits

And well -- the three sections of the photo, works quite well I'd say

Yes, the smaller size looks better on my screen. And it's a big screen.

I like the blackness and smoothness of the mailbax against the middle of the the three brick tones, all of them not smooth.

But perhaps not the other mailbox (?) just edging into the bottom of the photo.

Keep it as an avatar it seems to look right for you.

i never noticed the 'object' at the very bottom! not sure what it is. i will have to go back and check.
i quite often print my photos as 5x7.

Yes, that's exactly right.

Well done for late night.

thank you jon!

it's 1:15 a.m. here and i have great need for sleep.

i hope when i wake that there will be lots more feedback on the original shot.

thanks all for the fb so far and the suggestions.
i may get this made into a business card, just add my phone number somewhere on it.
